Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Confused about Ambassador Weekend Certificate

  • 29 posts

    Hi,
Please can someone clarify the Ambassador weekend night certificate.
I think I’ve incorrectly understood the terms.
I thought if I booked two nights, so the Friday and Saturday, that the cost of the Saturday night would be deducted from the final bill.

However I’ve just read a thread on here that I’m required to book three nights, so Thursday, Friday and Saturday and then the Friday night will be deducted.

Can someone let me know as we’ve made a booking for two nights only in December and don’t want to be informed at check out on my error and have to pay for the two full nights as it’ll be a costly error for me.

    Thank you so much.

Two nights required. Billed for both at first but bill reduced at checkout when you show proof of a valid free night

Great! Thank you, so my Friday and Saturday night booking is correct… phew!

Not to veer off-topic too much but I’ve foubd a European IC offering the AMB free weekend night across all days of the week. Bookibg progresses fine, no error at any stage. I’m not brave enough to rely on the booking’s validity though, nor will I be calling IHG (!!!) to check. Is this a Fight Club known issue? If so a simple yes will suffice and say no more.

Seeing as I’m struggling to find a weekend night that works for me anywhere I want to go I’d be grateful if Fight Club rule’s didn’t apply! It’s certainly not widespread AFAIK. Perhaps a heavy hint?

And as you present the voucher on checkout, you may struggle to use it against T&Cs.

You don’t present a voucher now do you? All should be in their system?

Both. You need to book the rate and have a valid voucher at check out.

Got you but there is no physical voucher now? There used to be but believe they stopped sending them out

No physical voucher. I assume it’s removed electronically from your account after the stay, though I don’t know if it’s automatic or requires intervention from the hotel or IHG.

I suspect I am looking at the same IC as you so would be very interested in any answer to this question. My booking is for February so I had wondered if it’s an off-season thing.

What proof is this? Logging onto one’s account sufficient?

Quick question, can hotels exclude the use of vouchers for certain weekends. Looking at the IC O2 London and it seems in August to have plenty of rooms but not taking Ambassador Weekend bookings apart from this coming weekend. I had assumed it would be available if rooms are on the Flexible Rate.

It isnt my obvious choice to use it there anyway, just was suprised it could exclude itself.

    Yes.

The number of rooms available for using weekend vouchers is capacity restricted.

Voucher is removed when you book (as per my account early last week before my recent stay) but I think you can only book if a voucher was in place at time of booking

You don’t need the voucher to be in your account to book the weekend rate. It only has to be there when you stay.

And in my experience the voucher isn’t removed until you check in.

And in my experience the voucher sometimes isn’t removed at all, even after check out 😉

Should the Ambassador Weekend Certificate nights count as “qualifying” from a stays and offers perspective?

We stayed 4 nights this week, the first 2 on a weekend certificate, and then nights 3-4 as a normal paid stay. The stays were consecutive, and merged at check-in.

In practice this has posted as non-qualifying for 2 nights and qualifying for 2 nights. Full points have been awarded in terms of USD amount paid. But I’ve only been given 2 nights despite staying 4, which means I haven’t been given the 10,000 points from the recent promotion.

The Ambassador T&Cs (sec.30) say the free weekend night certificate “cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion or free night offer.”

However, from the IHG One Rewards membership T&Cs it clearly says (coincidentally also in sec.30/31) “Qualifying Rates include Reward Night/Free Night”.

My interpretation of this would be that you should get the extra 2 elite qualifying nights towards status BUT they may not trigger the 10k promo bonus. If you haven’t had the qualifying nights showing in your account then I’d follow-up with IHG support.

I now see that this has also been discussed in some detail in another thread today!

Thanks. Looks like I would usually have triggered 4 nights with my overall stay, but the merging of the two bookings appears to have somehow caused the system to incorrectly code the first 2 nights as non-qualifying.

I’ve put it all in an email to Ambassador hoping they’ll deal with it in a common sense way – fingers crossed.

IHG replied from the Ambassador email within 2 hours, splitting it down into separate stays, and triggering all the qualifying nights and points promotions that I had hoped for.

A brilliant result – and absolutely astonishing level of service, compared to my usual very low expectations from hotel groups!

They might have upped their game recently; I emailed the other day enquiring about extending my Ambassador and got a reply within 12 hours!
