Discuss today's stories:
Hi Folks,
Took advantage of the status match recently so I could use RJ silver jay to reserve seats for free when travelling with the family.
I’m totally new to this so wouldd appreciate if someone can check what ol’ ChatGPT has told me, and from reading some posts here, is the correct process for bookings to ensure I can reserve free, whilst still crediting my BA account (if applicable). I’ll update the post if any of this is incorrect or if there are better ways to go about things. Any help is much appreciated.
Booking non-avios flights.
At time of booking (or in Manage My Booking):
Enter your Royal Jordanian frequent flyer number (Silver Jay).
This unlocks free seat selection and any other Ruby-tier perks on BA.
After seat selection is secured (but before flying):
Go back into Manage My Booking on the BA website.
Replace the Royal Jordanian number with your British Airways Executive Club number.
This ensures you earn Avios and Tier Points on the flight.
Booking Avios flights.
Book the flight normally via BA.com using your Avios while logged in to your BA Club account.
Contact BA via Live Chat or Phone:Ask them to replace your BAC number with your Royal Jordanian number on the booking.
This will unlock Oneworld Ruby perks, including free seat selection.
After you’ve selected your seat(s):
You can later switch your FF number back to BAEC (via Manage My Booking or at check-in) to ensure you still earn Avios and Tier Points — even on an Avios booking, BA may award Tier Points and extra Avios for eligible fare types (especially with mixed-cabin or paid upgrades).
Does this seem accurate?
There are 2 frequent flyer number entry boxes on bookings, how would you know the correct box is being changed?
I’m not even going to read this because it’s so inadvisable to rely on any AI programme!
There are already threads running on this subject which probably have the answers, e.g.
https://www.headforpoints.com/forums/topic/royal-jordanian-status-match/
The futility of these AI generated answers is that like using something old fashioned such as a calculator, you need to know the rough answer for it to be of any value.
I don’t quite see the point of seeking an AI answer and then asking random humans if it’s correct. Anyway, the correct answer is that there’s more than one way to skin a cat.
