Forums Payment cards Other payment cards Curve • adding a USA CC… possible?

I just wondered if it was possible to add a 🇺🇸–issued credit card to Curve and if any HFPers who have such a card had successfully been able to do this?

    Many thanks.

It’s a bit on and off. It worked in the past. Then they stopped adding any non-uk or non-eu cards. Now they say Visa cards outside uk and eu won’t be allowed to be added from 1st April.

BuildBackBetter — many thanks for this. I guess I’ve been late to this party. 🙂

BBB, would you know how to add a 🇺🇸–issued CC to a 🇬🇧 PayPal account? Even using a VPN set to America and even selecting the US version of PayPal, when I then go into addresses in order to add a new (US) address, the address fields are pre-populated to a UK format (county, post code) — is there a workaround to add a US address? (My wife is an Aussie, but UK-based for years, and her PayPal account permits two different geographical addresses for whatever reason.)

I didn’t know about the 1st April deadline but you should be able to add a US card to curve now. The only issue is that Curve will charge 2.5% extra on all transactions over £500 per month. If you have a paid curve you have a higher allowance for spending on non EEA cards.

My non UK cards work with paypal using my UK address, even though that is not the address registered with the cards. But the cards also work when entering my UK address as the billing address with normal websites, as I pass the 2FA check nobody seems to care. However I think many US cards don’t support 3D Secure so that may be an issue.

You say its a GB paypal account, but you seem to select the US version of paypal? As John mentioned above, best to use the local address for any service you use as it reduces complicating factors. So if using GB account of paypal, try using a GB address.

My only US card is Amex so not sure, but I’ve added Australian MC & Diners cards to Curve without any issues.

John — thanks ever so much for this: very, very useful indeed.

I’m currently visiting my wife in LA, but this morning I turned my VPN on and set it to 🇬🇧 and was then able to add my 🇺🇸 CC to Curve. (Thank you, too, for mentioning the fees — very good to know.) I couldn’t add it to PayPal, but the error message was that the card was “already linked to another PayPal account”, which is probably because my wife has linked her main card to her own PayPal account (my US CC is a supp card on her main card).

Again, thank you for input, John — very helpful indeed. 🙂

BBB – many thanks for replying again.

I did as you and John (above) have suggested this morning, but I couldn’t get PayPal to work using GB details. However, I suspect this was only because my wife’s main card (of which I’m a supp) is already linked to her own PayPal account. I suspect, were she to remove her card, then I’d successfully be able to add my card to PayPal.

Thanks so much again, BBB, for all your help — it’s been really gratefully received.

QFFlyer — many thanks indeed for this and this is very good to know. My (Aussie) wife will be returning to SYD/ADL in the next month for the first time in five years, so this seems a good time to try to add one of her Aussie cards to her Curve card. Many thanks for this datapoint, QFFlyer.
