Forums Payment cards American Express Is the Deliveroo offer (2 x £5) for new Gold Card holders?

  • 9 posts

A family member has just taken out a new Gold card. Offers are beginning to appear but no sign of the Deliveroo 2 x £5.

Does anyone know if new card holders are getting the Deliveroo credits? Or it can be added via chat?

Yes, you can get it added by chat or the phone if they still don’t have it.

Just to manage expectations, the statement credit is for £5, twice per month

Deliveroo ‘taxes and charges’ are clearly inspired by BA. Ultimately you don’t actually save very much, especially if one of the other firms have a promo on.

So, I don’t really rate the Deliveroo benefit very highly at all, and don’t actively go out of my way to order through them.

It works well if you know the restaurant hasn’t marked up their prices vs. their menu, and you choose the pick-up option (which doesn’t add any service charge nor delivery fee).

This is actually quite a fair summary.

As an additional tip, you might be able to get Deliveroo Plus for free if you have Amazon Prime. I’m not sure if that offer is still going, but it does help you get just a little bit more of a discount from all the fees and delivery charges. You need to order >£25 to get free delivery with Plus.

Thanks everyone. I managed to get chat to add the offer.

In my area the sweet spot is “pickup” – its very possible to get a decent burger and chips, burrito, pizza etc for £5-6 so its essentially a free lunch or dinner twice a month.

I’ve never actually done a delivery, much cheaper to call the takeaway direct and get them to deliver using their driver!

Dont use it myself but hfp had a hack whereby you can make £36 for zilch with the offer.

I believe that doesn’t work anymore, the minimum purchase to get the credit is £5.

Correct, Deliveroo caught on to that.

That’s defunct now as the gold reward switched to £5 back on a min £5 spend.

Sadly I don’t believe this is accurate anymore:

“There is no minimum spend requirement to trigger the £5 American Express credit.”

Amex added a £5 minimum spend a few months ago, possibly to stop this exact thing.
