My Mediterranean cruise includes BA economy flights to Athens and back from Venice. I plan on upgrading these to business class. Does anyone know if I will earn Avios and tier points on these flights? Thanks.
How were you planning to upgrade? Most bundled cruise & flight deals are BT (bulk tour) fares which aren’t eligible for Avios or cheap cash upgrades.
Our Viking cruise includes economy flights. Viking are offering business class upgrades. So, I was planning on doing this. Thanks.
If its a charter flight, I believe you will not earn avios or tier points.
It’s not charter. It’s a scheduled BA flight
And the upgrade isn’t particularly cheap. It’s £600 per person.
Find out the booking class and then check https://www.britishairways.com/travel/flight-calculator/public/en_gb

Definitely not cheap – personally I would book the flights separately with BA directly if you want the upgrade and tier points 😀

I have done a number of cruises, also with Viking, which included flights with BA and yes received my tier points and Avios.
Most recently to Iceland last year when we also did a cash upgrade via BA at on line check in.
However, whilst I could see the booking in my Executive Club account, the upgrade with Avios was never an on line option. The way (and selling class) cruise companies bulk buy seats and only “ticket” them late in the process means I think you will struggle to upgrade with Avios.
Once I knew what flights the cruise company were using, I would often negotiate a discount for booking my own flights, in CE with Avios. This I have done with Viking, most recently to the South of France earlier this year.
Hope this helps, and enjoy your cruise

Agreed. We booked with Trailfinders to fly to NYC and return on the QM2. We paid for WT+ with the intention of upgrading to Club with points. As mentioned the tickets only became ‘live’ 8 weeks before departure so by then there was no availability. Nice trip though. QM2 is excellent.
