I have just come back from 5 days in Istanbul.
The outbound leg (LHR-IST) in Club Europe (R) was credited to my account with 80 tier points, which is what I expected.
The return leg (IST-LHR) which was also Club Europe (R) has just posted to my account, but only as 40 tier points!
Is this correct, is there a difference in the number of tier points depending on direction of travel?
* I got the same amount of Avios awarded for both directions of travel, the only thing that changed on the direction was the tier points that were awarded.
Being reported on flyertalk that they’ve changed LHR-IST to 40 tps in the past few days. Not sure if this is in error (as LHR-SAW was showing as 40) or they’ve decided to reduce it. I’d keep an eye on it and if it goes back to 80 I’d ask for a correction
Thanks, I will keep checking.
I must have just missed the window though as I flew back on Monday.
I wonder if it is part of a drive to get more people to fly to SAW instead of IST?
The BA calculator shows both IST and SAW as 40 TPs now. That’s a bit of a joke for a 4hr+ flight, isn’t it?!

Those were my thoughts too, especially as there are 80 TP destinations that are closer. Sophia springs to mind as that is on the flight path to Istanbul!
Shurely not? It’s a long flight and longer than others earning more.
I wonder what, in particular, has prompted BA to do this unfair change right now.
I personally suspect someone tried to fix SAW and it’s gone wrong and they’ll both reflect as 80tps soon. We shall see..

I hope so
I booked LHR IST return last July on 80 Tier Points each leg. Just found out changed to 40 each leg. Not impressed as won’t maintain executive club level now. Will complain as t&Cs state they must provide members advance notification of changes.
Was looking at Ist for a 160 points run! Not any more 🙂
Looks like it was an error and should be resolved, though I will not hold my breath given BA’s IT…
*Edit*
The image link to my screenshot does not seem to be working, so here is what they said:
“We have been made aware that there is an error with the tier points calculator for LHR-IST. You are correct the number of tier points should be 80 per leg. The tier points calculator will be updated to reflect this as soon as possible. I’m sorry for the confusion”

Of course, in the interim I upgraded my June flights to Business Class, as I would need these extra points to have enough before my collection year ends. Now that they have confirmed it is an error that they intend to resolve, I am out of pocket by upgrading a flight that I did not need to.
This is rather frustrating as there will be no redress for that.
With a bit of luck, SAW will also be similarly adjusted.

It has been suggested that maybe someone was tasked with solving the difference between SAW and IST and resolved it in the wrong way. That would not surprise me given the state of BA IT…
The issue appears to have been fixed as Avios and Tier Point calculator on BA’s website now reflects 80TP for both IST and SAW
The issue has not been resolved on my account yet.
Today they added the Double Tier points for BA holiday, as suspected they based the amount awarded based on the base tier points awarded.
So instead of 40 points short of what I am owed, I am 80 points short.
I am not able to alert BA of my missing points as I am informed that I have to wait at least 3 days from date of travel before making a claim (it has been 11 days…)
Why is BA IT so poor?
