Hi, first post on here although have lurked for a while. Really useful forum.
I will be applying for an Amex Platinum in a couple of weeks when my 24 months ends from having a Gold Reward card. My wife is currently the named person on our Amex Gold Reward card. When I apply for Platinum, she’ll become a supplementary and we’ll close the Gold.
We are going on a 10th anniversary trip in May/June, and im considering a hotel that is part of the FHR for a few nights. She has approx 30k points on her Amex account. I know these cant be transferred to me, but would she be able to book the FHR hotel, and use these points to offset the cost?
Or do they not transfer and we’ll need to use them before we close her gold card?
Cheers
When your wife closes her card (assuming she holds no other MR earning Amex) she will need to have used her MR points otherwise she will lose them. Her being a supp on your card does not change that – her supp just earns MR on your account, it doesn’t keep an account open for her.
