Forums Payment cards American Express Does Amex car hire excess cover include Zipcar rentals?

Just wondering if Zipcar excesses are covered by the platinum card insurance.

    Does Curve Metal cover it?

I phoned to check with the Amex Platinum insurance team, the lady hadn’t heard of Zipcar, but when I explained what it was, she confirmed that hourly rentals such as these would indeed be covered.

As for Curve Metal, I don’t think you’d be covered. Their wording defines ‘Rental Vehicle’ as ‘hired on a daily or weekly basis’. And as one of the exclusions, it states ‘Rental of vehicles on an hourly (or less) basis where the rental vehicle is not physically checked in and out by a representative of the licensed car rental agency.’ And if using Zipcar in your home city, this bit (under the general terms, not the specific car rental section) might be an issue: ‘Any trip solely within the country of residence is only covered where you are travelling at least 100 kilometres from home and have pre-booked at least two nights’ stay at a registered accommodation provider rented for a fee.’

Anything with Amex Cust service, I’d call three times during UK business hours to triple check.

I use zip loads. Assumed it covers it. I read tandcs. It’s clear that any car hire that you can decline insurance for (which zip you can) is covered, so my view is yes.

    Thank you all.
