Forums Other Destination advice Dubai hotel recommendation

  • 41 posts

Never really thought of going to Dubai, I’m usually more of an adventurer, but a number of occurrences came together to make it an option. I finish current assignment on 19.03 and start a new one beginning of April; I have two BA vouchers that expire on 19th. And I have five days spare. So Dubai just fits.

    Anyway, enough background …

Any recommendations please for a Marriott hotel that is very near beach. Three reasons, one is that I have Titanium, so hopefully that comes with some perks, have enough points to book for five nights, and my four year old for medical reasons can’t go into chlorinated pool, hence the need to be near the sea.

A great lounge would be super too.

    Any recommends gratefully received. Thanks.

We have stayed in the Westin Mina Seyahi twice in the last few years. It has a real Resort feel – it has multiple pools and water park (not sure if chlorinated or not) and a fair few different restaurants and is right on the beach.

The lounge was great and featured a good happy hour from 6-8pm with canapés, cocktails and food.

Grovesnor House is the best Marriott in town for me but no beach … they have a shuttle to one no more than 5 mins drive away though.

I also like the Westin Mina Seyahi, though the private beach is shared with Le Meridien (seen better days) and the new W, plus the sometimes noisy Barasti beach club.

The club lounge at the Westin hands you a zero price bill as you’re leaving each sitting to add a tip. That got on my wick tbh as you end up filling it out while standing at the exit next to the staff.

IMO Grosvenor House is the best run Marriott in that beach area. Amazing treatment for Titaniums and a very grown up feel. However Le Royal Meridien, its sister hotel, has a much more beach resort feel and would suit better with kids.

Avoid the Marriott Palm ‘resort’ which shirks any requirements to provide elites with lounge access or late checkout on account of it being a resort.

You can get the shuttle bus to LMR, set yourselves up for the day on the loungers there, and it’s a short walk down to the beach if you want a swim. It’s a nice setting with views out to the Dubai wheel and a couple of resident camels!
The grounds are lovely and your 4-year-old will love the resident troop of peacocks.
When it starts going dark it’s quite the sight to see all the skyscrapers lighting up.

I’d say walk rather than shuttle bus. As the crow flies, the distance is minimal. But the bus gets stuck in traffic as it loops around the area.

I second Grosvenor House, stayed many times on 5for4 points deals, and always been upgraded to a suite, and I’m “only” Platinum.

Also second walking to LRM rather than the bus, takes all of 2 minutes, albeit across what can be quite a busy road

I wouldn’t be brave enough to dash across the busy road so I walk to the traffic lights. Still only takes the length of 2 songs or less, which is how I measure walking distances

With the addition of railings on the edge of the walkways it has become a little perilous, walking to the traffic lights is preferable, a trip in the house car is nice.

I agree except there’s massive fences between carriageways to stop you crossing the road towards LRM

Fine for me to walk the loop around but perhaps not others. The shuttle is atleast an option.

Where the fence ends and becomes a crash barrier, right on the bend of the road beside the GH, there’s a gap

We always walked across the road from GHH to LRM. But this past year we discovered you can walk out of GHH down to the water marina front and then walk under the road bridge and up the first ramp (it is sandy on this bit). This takes you to the other side of the road safely and then a couple of minutes walk to LRM. No need to use the shuttle since dicovering this way.

that’s the way I went this time also from LRM to GH.

You can’t go wrong with GH. A proper good all rounder.

Is that up the ramp to the left (past Toro Toro) that looks like a road that was never finished?

If only GH had a nicer and larger pool area. LRM is great too, but very different to GH.

We had the half board package (great value, would recommend), and there were a couple of days when we booked to eat at LRM. We spent the day there and took a change of clothes with us – the showers/changing facilities there are very nice.

While I loved GH, I think the pool shortcomings (less and less sun as more buildings go up) might push me to stay at LRM on a repeat visit. I love nice grounds as well, which LRM has in abundance.

Thanks for the advise to stay at GH. Paid 260k for five nights and was allowed to book either a standard room or suite…difficult choice. On check in reminded receptionist I was titanium and got a two bedroom apartment. It’s very nice, huge beds, enough towels to open a laundry; the kitchen and bathrooms are dated in look by about 15 years, but maybe folks go for that, I’m more minimalist in my wants. The breakfast spread is second to JW in Singapore, but that’s still better than every other place I’ve been…maybe I’ve been bought off by the freshly made masala dosas. The number of staff is simply incredible. Across the two towers more than 2,000. To put that in context, I’ve just finished a consultancy gig at a property outfit with 54,000 homes, and the entire team there, including repair team was the same number. Love the short 5 min walk to beach (yes, give the shuttle a miss), and great choice for restaurants and bars (but restricted if accompanied by four year old). Like the lounge, but not a fan of being banished to the family room. Good cocktails tough. Again, super advise, thanks !

The look of the rooms is the thing that has put me off GH. All that dark wood is not for me.

A bit late to this thread but based on the recommendations of the knowledgeable people here we also stayed at GH during our first trip to Dubai earlier this year. We thought it was excellent with exceptional service. I’m only gold so no lounge entitlement for me but due to a small misunderstanding with the room we were given complimentary lounge access two days in anyway!

LRM was recently refurbished. Perhaps they will get on to refurbishing GH in a similar light and airy tone. The moody dark theme works well in the spa area.
