Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Earn Avios without logging in to account

  • 69 posts

My parents have Avios accounts with points about to expire, but they can’t log in due to an old mobile number linked for 2FA.

We’re trying to get BA to unlock the accounts, but I’m not confident it’ll happen in time.

I’ve tried converting Nectar to Avios to keep the points alive, but that requires logging in.

Is there a way to send/earn/transfer Avios without fully logging in, just by using the account number?

IIRC, Wineflyer purchases will send avios to a linked account as soon as you place an order, but I can’t remember if you need to log in to BAC to link the accounts in the first place.

The wines aren’t cheap, though, so you’d probably want to be saving a lot of avios from expiring to make it worth it!

Q is why they have 2FA when most of us stopped being served it last year.

Have they tried access via the app or via the old website, if that is still possible?

Can you add them to a HHA with someone else with status? Or just do a super cheap redemption from the HHA to create activity?

The login screen says Verify Your Identity.

Thanks for the suggestion – They can log in on the app, but the app doesn’t let you change any details. I tried a link to the old website, but it redirects to the new site.

I was actually trying to add them to a HHA – but of course they have to log in to be able to accept the invitation.

Now they have access to the app, Making a RFS reservation and then cancelling – are they still being charged £1 and would that keep the points alive? Assuming they can do that from the app. Otherwise losing 5k points is better than losing them all.

Cancellations are free within 24 hours of booking, otherwise £35 pp or less if you’ve paid less cash. However, I think you have to log in to be able to make avios bookings from the app – I always seem to get redirected the the main BA website.

Could they call BA and make a booking by phone? If they explain that the accounts are temporarily inaccessible they shouldn’t be charged any extra for this. Then maybe cancel online once the accounts are unlocked and/or there has been more activity.

How many avios are at risk of expiring, just out of interest?

Two things. If they cancel an award booking within 24hrs it’s free (see NorthenLass beat me to that one)

Also have them try logging in using incognito mode. I did this and it jumped straight past a 2FA request that was coming up using a normal browser window.

Have you tried erewards survey. I’ve done it with IB and it credited 1pt immediately.

It may or may not be easier than a reward flight, but you can similarly book a cash fare by phone & part pay with 1K Avios, then cancel within 24 hours for no cost.

You may be able to book a cash fare and part pay with Avios via the app, as it doesn’t tend to require a full ‘web login’ in the way a reward booking does.

    thanks all.

We got through to BA on WhatsApp pretty quickly – they advised to call Member Services line and got through to them pretty quickly.
Passed data protection and then the BA staff said its happening a lot recently, and it has to be a manual fix. So they took details and said they’d pass it on to another department to fix after Easter.

Fingers crossed they do it quickly then I can create the HHA and book one flight that deducts from both the accounts to keep them alive. Will also try the e-survey method.

Booking Airbnb doesn’t need you to logi, you just put in your club number. So if BA don’t fix it maybe book a cheap Airbnb nearby for tomorrow, check in, and explain the situation?
