Easter Island using Avios

Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points
I’m planning a trip to Chile for next year, including Easter Island. I’d actually planned this for 2025 but had to cancel. Back when I was doing my original planning I am sure I was able to book SCL – IPC on LATAM using Avios, via Iberia / BA. However I can no see no Avios availability at all, at any point.
I’ve searched old threads and can see others have used Avios in the past – does anyone with experience think this is a temporary glitch, or is LATAM now blocking Avios redemptions on this route? I’d like to lock in flights but would prefer to use points if I can.
Any help appreciated! Alex
I do not have any insight but was searching the site for a similar thing. I am in the same position (planning a trip for the tail end of this year) and couldn’t see any way to book using avios. Certainly seems like you used to be able to book using avios but not any more.
I am guessing you want business class as the economy fares are reasonable. If you are able to book a seat with decent legroom, the economy flight is just fine. Business class did look decent, but the Avios rates when I flew were what I thought was poor value. As a day flight, I really didn’t personally see the value in the upgrade. I splurged elsewhere.
I flew to PPT via IPC from SCL in 2017 using Avios, booking the flight through British Airways when LATAM was still part of oneworld. Since LATAM left the alliance, things have definitely changed—for the worse, it seems. That said, I’ve still managed to book some LATAM flights within South America using Avios via the BA website even after the partnership ended, though availability has become hit or miss. It’s worth keeping an eye on the latest updates through

You can still book LATAM via BA, but you need to call. The availability is not showing online.
I wouldn’t boon with Iberia as the reward flights are non-refundable on partner airlines (expect for BA).
You could use Virgin if you have any of their points.
I’ve booked in May 2025 via BA with LATAM using AVIOS for flights in early March 2026 successfully. We are flying Econ. I can see through tracking in Google flights that the cash prices have increased significantly since booking. I haven’t been tracking AVIOS availability. I’d be tempted to give BA a call if you are seeing no AVIOS availability at all. And also have a look at the flights via LATAM they were about the same price as AVIOS equivalent when I was booking – but as I said that was a while ago.
I took another look at my flights today. I wasn’t able to find any Easter Island availability – but was able to book other Latam flights via BA with AVIOS.
We went from SCL to IPC last year but were unable to find Avios availability on Latam through BA so paid cash. This year will be in Ecuador and have recently booked Quito to Cuenca in October with Latam using Avios on BA website. At 1p per Avios it was not that much cheaper than a cash fare, but includes baggage.
