I thought I would post this as a help to others facing the same problem in future. We flew Emirates to Dubai recently and reserved extra leg room both ways at cost of £146 each way. Without being informed the aircraft was swapped from A380 to a 777on the outward journey, I wouldn’t have know about this until checkin if I hadn’t by chance rechecked my reservations. We were changed to a normal economy seat randomly allocated I therefore had to pay for extra seats in the Premier Cabin at my own expense to get decent leg room. Since retuning Emirates initially refused any refund however, I had a contact elsewhere in Emirates who pursued the matter on my behalf and eventually I had our original seat reservation costs refunded in full. We did speak to another couple on the plane who had exactly the same problem and weren’t notified which I believe doesn’t do much for Emirates reputation.
