Forums Other Destination advice Esta validity question

Afternoon, just updating my ESTA, and this time I will have to check the “In transit” box as I am stopping off in the US briefly before I head to another country.

For future visits to the US where I am not in transit to another country, will I need to get a new ‘not in transit’ ESTA, or would my existing ESTA still be valid?

    TIA

There’s no difference, the box just means you don’t have to put down a US address for your first night stay. Your ESTA will still be valid for 2 years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

I think you can update your ESTA with your first night address ahead of each trip, but I never have and have never been asked about it. You certainly don’t need to pay for a new ESTA.

They collect first nights address via APIS so no need to update esta

It says it is recommended to update it but not compulsory.
