I’ve got some time off in May and looking to do a short European break on top of an existing trip to New York. I’m currently blue and looking to get to silver from these two trips.
My New York trip is F outbound and J inbound, so a total of 350 TPs, leaving just 100 to silver on the reduced thresholds to the end of this year.
I was looking at the 160 TP destinations and Bucharest came up pretty cheap (my preference was Istanbul, but CE prices are ridiculous at the moment!). I was looking at doing CE outbound for 80 TPs, leaving me just 20 TPs short of silver, and to be honest I’m happy to do Euro Traveller inbound rather than paying the premium for CE both ways.
According to BA’s tier point calculator, I need to be in one of the “economy low” fare buckets K, L, M, N, S or V to get 20 TPs from OTP-LHR (as opposed to “economy lowest” Q, O and G which net 10 TPs). My question is whether there’s any way of ascertaining the fare bucket before booking? I can’t see anything on BA’s website when doing a dummy booking.
Looking on Google flights, there’s the “economy basic” option with no hold luggage, and “economy plus” with hold luggage. I’m assuming that if I pay for hold luggage that’ll bump me up into one of the “economy low” fare buckets and take me to 450 TPs, but if anyone can confirm that would be great!
As an aside, when I log into my account the “progress to next tier” shows as 300 TPs to Bronze, so presumably the usual 600 to silver, but with a message below regarding the reduced thresholds. Presumably just an IT error and status does actually post correctly at the reduced thresholds?
