Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Feedback on booking return leg with companion voucher

  • 3 posts

Firstly wanted to say that I found this forum and the ‘How to book return leg’ thread really useful.
Interestingly myself and 2 separate family members had completely different experiences, even though we were all lined up Nat 12.45 am to phone the call centre and make our bookings.

I got through after a short wait and was lucky to get a lovely young man who was really helpful and secured the seats for me.

Family member 1 got through then was cut off and unfortunately the guy she was talking to didn’t ring back. She then redialled, and even though she was on the phone before 1 am she was on hold 25 mins then gave up. Cost of call from her mobile over £100.

Family member 2 got through but was told to ring back as it was too early. She then had the same experience as number 1. However she eventually found another number and got through on 0018002479297 at 1.45 am.

I was clearly the lucky one, and got my flights from Miami – there are only 2 flights a day. The 2 family members have ended up on flights from Atlanta, so a 6 hour drive for them from Orlando, but at least they got return flights.

It’s a shame there is such inconsistency in how the system works. It makes it very stressful.

Adding the return leg in this way is really a goodwill gesture by BA so unfortunately you are at the mercy of the agent you get on the other end of the phone.

Did any of you try booking online while you were waiting on the phone?! Also there are ways to call these numbers free or at least at very low cost. I think Skype is now defunct but Viber may still be an option and others have been mentioned in the dedicated thread and similar ones.

Keep an eye out for cancellations and extra availability being added, and remember it’s very easy to connect in the US so family could fly MCO-ATL rather than driving.

My Lebara mobile contract has 50 free international minutes a month. I’ve used it several times to grab J redemptions to tricky destinations.

Viber Out is great for international calls – you just add a credit of £4.99 and it lasts for months. I have been using it for years.

A friend recently tipped me off about My Tello, which issues a proper US eSIM which gives you inbound calls and SMS as well as cheap calling to US numbers. It costs a few quid but not £ 100!
