Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Trouble finding Reward Flight Saver tickets

  • 8 posts

Hi, Ive been caught out by the recent change to the “book and cancel” loophole for extending the length of companion vouchers, therefore I have two companion vouchers ending mind June. Down want to waste them so have been looking for a couple of shorthaul weekends, but can’t find any Reward Saver flights with the fixed rate tax. Is there a way of just searching for these flights and showing availability?? Thanks

It’s not quite clear what you’re trying to do here – if you’ve earned avios in the past 3 years (I think), you should be eligible to book RFS so any availability should show on a search. BA does show various rates of avios and surcharges when you start a booking, but when you click through to the next screen, the RFS price will be an option that you can select. Which destinations have you been looking at?

*I’ve just checked on RFF (ok as a rough guide) and it’s showing absolutely loads of ET and CE seats to European destinations in May and June so you should be able to find something.

Thanks, ill keep searching (i was looking for Amman, maybe that is exlcuded), but since my post have seen the Reward saver flights for other destinations. Ill just keep trawling, was hoping there would be a way os seeing just seeing only RFS flights. Thanks for you reply

Where are you looking? All short haul destinations are eligible for RFS (not sure whether Amman falls into this – what zone is it?), so if there’s availability showing, there will be a RFS option.

There does seem to be availability for Amman, but I think it must not be a RFS destination, hence you’re being quoted the higher surcharges.

I believe RFS is for flights under 2000 miles. Which AMM isn’t.

It was, but now you can get RFS to the US as well, so BA may well be adding more destinations!

BTW, @revilo – you can’t book RFS to the US online but you may well be able to by phone. I added a RFS return leg from MIA recently and got the 50% avios refunded via Twitter with no quibble.

Hold on, I thought you couldn’t combine RFS and a Companion Voucher. I’m not entirely sure what the OP is trying to do.

Of course you can – you book it in the same way as any flight using a 241! You get 2 award flights for 1 x avios plus 2 x RFS fee.

    * It’s not considered a great use of avios, which is why you don’t see it mentioned much here, but it can be preferable to letting the 241 go to waste.
Also @SteveJ – how did you miss the whole “Book cheap RFS flights and cancel for a FTV to preserve the 241” long-running saga? 🤣

Of course 🤦🏻, I even used it to extend my own companion voucher!

I think @revilo was shouting in frustration due to not being able to find suitable flights.
