Can anyone help with the following technical questions:
1. Am I correct in understanding that Finnair Plus membership years work like the BA Executive Club used to? So after joining, there are fixed and predetermined 12 month periods to accumulate tier points, regardless of any status activity. For example, if I become Gold after 10 months, then I would have two months to get the remaining points needed for Platinum, and either way points reset and the following membership year takes effect thereafter.
2. With regards to the first year of membership, is it exactly 365 days long or is there rounding involved? So if I join today (12 May), will the end of the first year be 11 May next year, 31 May next year (end of calendar month rounding), or something else?
You should watch the video on Matt’s Planet, but answer to number 2 is yes there is rounding.
You join today and you have until 31st May 2026 to collect your points.
The way I understand number 1 is that you have 12 months or a little more if timed correctly to collect points. Then everything resets and whatever status you got the year before you keep the following year.
But watch the video I mentioned as there are ways of getting status sooner. I’m doing the same so… 🙂

It’s a year from date of joining then the end of that month. I joined 5/5/25 and counting period is to 31/5/26.
Better still if you are a member and have no flights or Avios in the account they can delete you account simply and easily and you can the John again just before you fly

Interesting they can delete the account – I currently have no avios balance or upcoming flights but I have recent activity in Feb, do you know if that is still eligible for deletion? Otherwise I’ll call them on Monday and report back.

Yes – your AY+ account should still be eligible for deletion, although you will lose any Avios in it, unless you transfer them to BAC beforehand.
The comments above about year end are correct, except that there is one exception. If you join on the first of the month, your membership year will run to the last day of the preceding month. Join on 1 June, your year will end on 31 May; join on 2 June, your year will run to 30 June.

I think your account is still eligible for deletion, but you will lose any Avios that you have collected on it (unless you transfer out to BAC first). I deleted my empty old AY+ account using the chat function – it took about a week to be processed and then I could set up a new account.
Note on membership years: the posts above are correct but there is one exception. If you join on the first of the month, your year will expire on the last day of that month. Join on 1 June, year will end on 31 May. Join on 2 June, year will end on 30 June. (at least according to Matt).

My wife and I deleted our accounts via the app and it was instant. So far very impressed with AY + service though as a basic member you cannot get beyond the BOT at the moment, given the cancellations and Finnair operation chaos this is not surprising but BA flights are taking an age to post I suspect that some of this functionality will disappear if too many of us head to the land of the midnight sun.

Interesting wrinkle on the 1st of the month, had no idea! I’ll make a note when planning, thanks

It’s probably only a matter of time before they tighten the purchase TP option too
