@Metty It does sound like 3A and 4A would be better than 2A and 3A. One last question, I promise! Is there actually more space in terms of legroom / foot cubby space in 2A, or you can’t see the difference?
@GG thanks for your insight too!
@philuk legroom cubby is same same. I imagine that yachties may prefer to stick their heads in the footwell, there’s enough space!
@Metty that sums it up perfectly, thanks a lot!
I’m travelling LHR-HEL-HND on two separate reward tickets with overnight stay. I arrive into HEL at 21:05 and depart the following day at 17:00. Can I check my luggage straight through from LHR? Was trying to decide whether to stay at the airport or downtown and lugging luggage was a consideration. If I only have to deal with hand baggage I’ll go into town.
Miraculously I managed to get an ANA F reward seat for my return home
@Aston. You are correct. AY will check your luggage through to KIX. Two and a half hours should be more than enough. The minimum connection time at HEL is 40 minutes. Your only risk is that if the 10:20 flight to HEL was to be cancelled, there is no later flight that would get you there in time. Even on separate tickets, I would expect Finnair to get you on the next available flight to KIX.
Thank you for the info.
Would Finnair genuinely put you on another longhaul outbound if your unprotected shorthaul inbound to Helsinki was delayed? Seems unnecessarily generous.AY would have zero obligation to put someone on separate tickets on to the next flight if they miss their original – no matter who or what caused the delay.
People doing these self connections with tight times need to double check what their insurance would cover in such a situation.
I agree 100%. I read lots in forums that AY will help you on the long haul if connection is delayed or canceled. I have neved actually heard of it happening. I did chat to AY call centre about it and they said they would help you and put you on the next available long haul. But still, I know from experience what AY call centre say and what they do are two completely different things.
I would never rely on a shortish connection on seperate tickets and expect AY to fix it for me.
As for connecting in HEL from the UK to the far east. It really is quick. No security and no immigration. The UK flights normally arrive very colse to far east departures. It will most likely be a 5 minute connection, with maybe 10 minutes at the worst.
