Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club FTV with an Amex Companion Voucher – how to redeem it?

  • 93 posts

    Good afternoon and merry Christmas,

If I want to redeem a FTV that holds an Amex Companion Voucher, do I have to call BA?

One more thing – is there any way to find them on your BAEC account? The only proof I have is an email from BA with 2 eVoucher numbers and it says travel must be completed by 30 April 2023.

    Thanks in advance.

    Have to call and book
That email should be enough proof for yourself

The codes are not e-vouchers, they are the FTV numbers, which are not quite the same, and just to make it even more difficult they are not the original ticket numbers either.

The email should also have the original booking reference number eg ABCD1E which is all they need on the phone to re-book. You should have the original e-ticket that was emailed when you booked first time round. This will detail the exact amount of avios and cash that you have locked up in the FTV. It will also show the 241 voucher number that you used – which you should also be able to find in ‘used vouchers’ in your BA account.

And, all FTVs were extended from April 23 to 30 September 23 – all travel to be completed by then, unlike the normal 241 which is outbound by the expiry date.

    Got it, thanks!

Are you able to book what you want in an existing 241 and then transfer the booking to the FTV you have? I need to know if that is possible. I am worried about not being able to get the tickets I want if faffing around with call times and extra admin with FTV.
    Thanks

If you mean book a new ticket, with a new 241, and then try retrospectively to use the existing credit in a FTV, then no, I don’t think you can do that.

    Hi All,
About to cancel a companion voucher flight in order to extend my 241. Only option I am getting is an eVoucher, is this the same as a FTV?

Where is the only option an e-voucher? It should be this form which is the same form for either an e-voucher or a FTV: https://www.britishairways.com/travel/webforms/public/en_gb?eId=120001&wfpId=covidn

They are not the same – the form will generate the appropriate ‘voucher’. For a simple cash booking you would get an e-voucher, which is like a gift certificate – it represents a certain amount of money which can be used towards any CASH booking. For an award booking, it will be a FTV, which is the total spent so far held in credit, to be used on any future AWARD booking BUT for the same named people.

    Ok, thanks.

So where it says select a single e-voucher, do I choose yes or no?

Apologies, I’m new to all this 😬👍

Under where it says, select a single -voucher, it says:

‘We’ll try to issue your preferred voucher type, although some bookings – such as Avios redemptions and holidays – aren’t currently eligible for a single eVoucher.

As above, you will be getting a FTV, not an e-voucher. I don’t think that box will make much difference.

    Hi All,
Apologies if this has already been asked, I had a look through but couldn’t see an answer!
I need to cancel an Amex Companion flight that is due to depart next week. I am happy getting a FTV, but does anyone know what would happen if when I come to use the FTV with the companion voucher the taxes\avios are less than the voucher value? Many thanks in advance!

I know my answer won’t be 100% useful but either you’ll get the remaining Avios and cash back on another FTV or directly credited/refunded back to your account. Actually I think it’ll be the latter.
