It’s 150 k Avios to fly 2 person return in Qatar economy cabin in Feb 2024 +£663 taxes etc
Is that a good value for use of the points?.
BA don’t fly to Bangkok and I know I can’t use the 2for1 I have that expires in Feb 2025
I heard that Qatar economy cabin is comfortable
Thanks for any helo or suggestions/comments
£663 in tax and charges for 2 people or each?
Economy fares to BKK in Feb look to be around £650 rtn so 150K for £650. It’s a no from me, but YMMV.
That seems bad value to me.
As a base you could convert those miles into £1000 worth of Nectar points, so the question is can you get a better flight for under £830 per person?
A quick look online suggests the cash fare for QR is £700 for the random dates I picked in Feb. You can pay £600 and go Gulf Air or £900 and go nonstop on Thai.
If you pay £1130 you can get Premium Economy on Finnair – along with another slug of Avios.
It’s £663 for 2 people and yes at £650 economy return to BKK it’s not good value but guess that was a 1 person only price?. which airline was that?
Swiss Tony – are those prices for 1 person only ?. ie £1130 with Finnair
Thanks both for comments
Yes, prices are per person.
But you’re getting such bad value from that proposed QR redemption, unless you’re avios rich and cash poor (nothing wrong with that), I think you should pay for a ticket – and given the ability to get outsized returns on some avios redemptions, even paying for Finnair in PE isn’t a bad deal in my book, especially when you’ll each get a further 10,000 Avios back.
And for some this might be worth a look too – BA.com showing BHX-DOH-BKK out on Feb 7th, back on assorted other dates, for £1538. All sectors in J/I with the exception of the BKK-DOH which books into Y/Y.
I see business class cash prices are finally coming down for Bangkok. Still a while to go until they get to (or under) £2k during peak.
I wouldn’t consider it. Sales will be coming and you’ll probably get two return on economy for £1200. Kf you have a companion voucher you could try getting J to India, Shanghai, HK or SIN. No personal experience but I have been told and have also read that Y on 787s os horrible, a380 is likely good, no idea about a350, and 777 not worth talking about.
