Forums Other Destination advice Gothenburg Hotels (inc Radisson)

Booked cheap BA CE sale flights to Gothenburg for a weekend in the autumn and now pondering hotels. Has anyone stayed at either the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel or the Radisson Blu Riverside Hotel on the other side of the river? I also like the look of Hotel Pigalle and the Clarion Hotel Post (which has a heated rooftop pool!) Haven’t seen much on HfP about Gothenburg so any other tips very welcome thanks.

Can’t offer you any help but would be interested as we also bought tickets to Gothenburg before extra discount sale ended. They were a bargain and Gothenburg looks interesting. Also booked tickets to Oslo. Decided as flights were so cheap it was better to fly back to UK than take train between the too cities! The inbound flights in Y were cheaper than a single train ticket!

Yep absolute bargain, we are flying out from LHR Friday night, back Sunday night and it was £411 total for two of us in CE! I’ve done some research this morning and there is a SLH called Dorsia Hotel that looks lovely, wondering if I could use the current Amex Plat £100 cashback on £300 spend in terms of getting them to charge the card before the end of the offer…

I stayed at the Clarion Hotel Post about two years ago – I liked the public spaces, less so my room (though can’t remember exactly why – think it just felt different to the rest of the hotel).

Tavolo is a delightful Italian restaurant in Gothenburg – which, at least was when I visited in September, part of the Amex Platinum overseas dining offer.

@ExpatInBerlin – The Dorsia is a very nice hotel, great location, a little quirky inside. Definitely worth trying the ‘pay now’ rate to see if you can get the cashback.

    For fine dining I recommend
Thornstroms Kok, had a great meal there previously.

Scandic central surprisingly good but possibly too large for you for a romantic weekend. Gothenburg is lovely but even better are the islands – get to the ferry from airport (35 mins) then take ferry to Donso (25 mins). There is a simple hotel there called Isbolaget, and you can get ferries between the islands very easily. No cars, bikes easy to hire and beautiful scenery, if rather windswept, quiet and no major dining highlights. One of the best places we have ever been.

Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Scandinavia.

Just a 1 night stay for me but it’s in a great location (particularly handy as I arrived by train) and was clean and modern – presumably recently refurbished. Friendly staff and nice bar etc.

I’m not a frequent Radisson user (prioritise Marriott and Hilton) but based on this experience I may have to use them more.

Like @DanielD I ate at Tavolo, would also recommend, and confirm it’s still included on the AMEX dining offer.

We stayed at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia for three nights way back in October 2020, when being in Sweden was a wonderful change to many other places in the world! The hotel is more impressive on the inside (with a lovely atrium) than it is on the outside, but it is well located and within easy walking distance of most areas or places you would want to visit. Breakfast was decent. We would happily stay there again if in Gothenburg.
