Hi, I’m flying JFK->LHR tonight and I booked into CW using avios + a 241 voucher. I just went to check in but it says I need to check in at the desk in the airport – fine, this seems common for US flights because I’m on a US work visa.
However, I’ve noticed this flight now says “FIRST” instead of Club World. My previously-selected seat has also disappeared, but it won’t let me see the seat map to select a new one because of the above need to check in at the airport.
I’m a silver and it’s a reward flight, so it feels a little surprising. Should I be getting excited or is this some kind of bug?
I’d get there nice and early and fingers crossed it’s correct. Good luck!
Fingers crossed indeed and let us know how you get on! 🙂
If you’re on the 174, 172 or 114 these look extremely busy so definitely a good chance on those. Fingers crossed for you!
Thanks all, yeah indeed I’m on 172 so that checks out. Will update here!
Yep I’ve been upgraded. The check in staff didn’t even know, they were just confused why I wasn’t at the First check in desk.
The Chelsea lounge really is fantastic.
Congratulations! Hope you enjoyed. Chelsea is the best lounge I’ve ever visited.
Many congratulations!!
I am heading to JFK Friday and got an email yesterday per the below. We have 3 x PE cash tickets and no status (but stacks of Avios and 4 more BA family trips this year)
I got my hopes up but the agent said it was a blanket email to all customers in economy (who would have been entitled to a PE upgrade) so unfortunately we weren’t eligible.
Tbh I did smell a r@t surely they wouldn’t email me just to make up some story about the distribution list being wrong) but I’m flying with a 4 and 6 year-old and none of us have status, so hardly prime candidates for an upgrade.
Nb no such options available online for me to self-serve.
Due to a reduction in capacity following a change of aircraft operating your flight, we’d like to offer you the option of a complimentary cabin upgrade on an alternative flight from Heathrow to New York JFK. You have the option to travel on one of our flights from 29th March to 29th March inclusive. Please note, this offer is subject to availability.
If you would like to change your cabin and travel dates, please contact us.

Tbh I did think something was up – surely they wouldn’t email me just to make up some story about the distribution list being wrong) but I’m flying with a 4 and 6 y/o and none of us have status, so hardly prime candidates for an upgrade.

Tbh, if they emailed you this, and then didn’t offer you it, surely it’s worth a complaint? Especially if the wording is that the offer is subject to availability but not eligibility, anyone would reasonably assume they could upgrade. Very poor comms.

Another positive experience on the back of the above challenge a few days ago!
My O/H is travelling on the same flights as me & children, albeit on a separate booking and also in WT+/PE so we can sit together. She got an email advising of an auto-upgrade this morning to CW.
We called BA to request that we all get the same cabin (our only real objective to have family together) and they said they would offer the upgrade to her (solo) but not us three. We declined and said please revert her to PE. I wonder how many upgrade rejections they get!!
An hour later, we had a call (Birmingham dial code) and they offered all four of us CW seats albeit on a different flight on the same day – result.
Travelling in the Club Suites with a couple of younger children may be a little challenging but I was really very grateful and will express my thanks via their website.
I haven’t experienced great customer service for a while and what turned out to be a bit “meh” (sorry you got the upgrade email by mistake) really made my day in the end.

Don’t be fooled into thinking this is great customer service! It means they have oversold PE and have to move some people to CW. It’s not done for your benefit!
That said, it’s a nice thing to have happen to you and enjoy your upgrade.
