OK, so this might be something new… (Apologies if not)
On the AA app, if you manage a booking and put the 125 ticket number in (all digits, no hyphen) it flips over to the AA PNR and lets you change seats etc,
Unfortunately I booked on the BA app to start with and unlike the website that doesn’t seem to show you the AA PNR.
AA’s IT is much better than BA’s. I booked an AA redemption for QR and the AA website showed me the QR PNR so I could hope over to that and book my seats.
BA does show the AA PNR if you try and select seats – it shows you before sending you over to AA.
But no you haven’t discovered anything new. It’s done this for years!
Didn’t know about using the ticket number, but the BA app shows the AA PNR if you go in to seat selection. For AA flights it displays both the BA & AA PNR’s before redirecting to the AA website.
For whatever reason, ba.com wouldn’t let me pick seats. It assigned the 5 of us automatically across the back two rows of F but when I tried to select seats on BA it just showed a list of what we already had. 🤷♂️
Now find a way to turn an IB PNR into a BA one!

Interesting because a BA PNR works on the IB Website, well it did for me on a BA redemption, so the other way round is not the same?
