Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Hearing aids and IFE

My mum is doing a long haul flight to Vancouver in a soon. They are flying BA in club from LHR. She is very hard of hearing and wears hearing aids in both ears. They are the ” behind the ear” type. She is concerned about being able to use the in flight entertainment.
Does anyone have any experience of either using headphones over hearing aids, and if so, any particular ones. ( I imagine they would need to be the wired type as you can’t always connect via bluetooth??). Or does anyone know if the supplied ones on the plane would work?

    Thanks in advance.

I wear miniRITE (mini receiver in the ear) hearing aids, these are behind the ear with a tube that fits into the ear. I also have Bose QC 35 noise cancelling headphones that work extremely well with the hearing aids. From everything I read the hearing aids with the narrow tube are fairly comfortable with headphones, the slightly older style with a slightly wider pipe can get a little uncomfortable with the headphone surround pushing the ear onto the pipe. They ‘should’ work with the BA supplied headphones but I haven’t tried them. Sony WH-1000XM4 get great reviews and are on special at Amazon at the moment for £200, she could try these at home before travelling. They come with a cable that should fit the IFE, just double check they have a standard 3.5mm plug on the end that doesn’t connect to the headphones. They work wired or wireless, if she really wants to go to town the buy an AirFly transmitter, this plugs into the IFE and transmits the audio to the headphones.

@strickers Fantastic thanks. I’ll pass the info along.

I believe there is also an adapter that you can use to convert your IFE audio into a wireless signal and then connect your own wireless headphones to your IFE which can be helpful.

@ABA That’s the AirFly that I mentioned above, just don’t forget to disconnect it when you get off the aircraft!
