Hello
We are travelling on a BA 241 ticket in May. We return from Vancouver in to T3 at 14:10 (Club World). We connect to a domestic flight from T5 (Eurotravller as I left adding on this leg too late) to GLA at 17:10
How do we best use out time between 14:10 and 17:10? Can we get into te T3 lounges? If so, which is best for something to eat, drink and to shower? Or do we get fastracked in the termainla transfer queues to T5?
If we do go to a T3 lounge, how long do we need to allow to et to T5 departure gate?
I look forward to your advice
Many thanks
Phil
I *think* sadly you won’t be able to access any lounges (unless you have status) as the T3 ones need you to be departing from there and you’re on an economy ticket for your domestic leg. You can try being nice to the gatekeepers at T5 and pointing out you’ve come off a CW flight, but I think officially it wouldn’t count.
It can take a good hour to transfer though, so you might not have that much time to kill in T5 (unless the GLA leg is delayed, but that’s another issue!)
As you are flying CW , could use arrivals lounge in T3 or T5.
As the arrival lounges can be used. Isn’t it better for BA if the passengers used the “normal” lounges (from a capacity management perspective)?
Therefore, should there be a certain guarantee that asking would get the passengers in the north/south lounges?
As you are flying CW , could use arrivals lounge in T3 or T5.
Don’t both arrivals lounges close at 14.00?
Yes, they close at 2 pm AFAIK. I hadn’t considered it though, as the only time I ever enquired about using the one at T5 I was told that I wouldn’t be allowed in being on a connecting ticket – I assumed this was because it’s landside, though I don’t actually know if this is the case!
Yep, both seem to be landside unless I read it wrongly.
Locations
British Airways Arrivals Lounge, Terminal 5 – please take the orange lifts to the first floor before check-in and security.
American Airlines Arrivals Lounge, Terminal 3 – exit to the right after the customs hall, then take the stairs or lift next to the restaurant to Level 2.
To clarify the LHR-GLA flight is on a separate ticket?
If so then you’ll have to collect bags at T3 and then make your way land side to T5.
Even if no bags HAL have been denying access back into T3 if you don’t have a BP for a T3 departing flight.
Please note you don’t have 3 hours. At the latest you need to have cleared T5 security no later than 35 mins if no bags before the GLA departure and 60 mins before if you need to recheck bags.
If you keep your CW BPs you should be given access to the club lounge as there is a carve out to the normal no access on economy and no status rule.
To clarify, no the LHR-GLA is on the same itinerary. We had to book the YVR-LHR at midnight on the date they became availabel as we were travelling on the same flight as my mum dad bro and sis (so 6 of us in total, all hoping to get in to CLub WOrld on reward seats) we managed it. But I didnt want to confuse matters by adding the GLA-LHR during the same phone call. However I kept putting it off and now the LHR-GLA that best suits us has no reward club seats. SO had to book economy
As an aside, during the YVR-LHR booking i just called the normal ‘plebs’ number and got through to a guy at Avios in Liverpool who was spot on and sorted things very efficiently My brother has Gold status and he called the speical golden hotline and got through to someone who had no clue how to process the booking (adding the YVR-LHR as a return). He ended up having to put the phone down and wait to get throught to the UK call centre the following morning.
So anyway. I have checked. Oneworld lounge rules say you can use the lounge if the overseas leg of your journey is in Club, even if the domestic is in economy. So the question remains, what can we se? are theere any? is it best just to head for the BA lounges in T5?
Thanks for all your replies so far
Yes, T5 Galleries North or South, as mentioned before you may not have a huge amount of time though. Keep an eye on your gate for the GLA leg, very occasionally they can end up departing from the B or C concourse!
You can join the waiting list for a shower, waiting times vary depending on how busy it is.
Hang on to your boarding card from YVR as well, as they won’t be able to confirm you’re eligible for lounge access from your GLA one.
May I resurrect this thread?
We are travelling CE in to T3 and then out of CE from T5 3 hours later (on same booking). One of us has silver status too.
I’ve not had the chance to try any lounges in T3 so hoping might be possible to grab a bite to eat at T3 Qantas or Cathy lounges but:
a) is it possible to access airside T3 lounges when arriving into T3?
b) will T3 lounges accept us as following flight departs T5 (I’m presuming so)?
c) any potential snags re transfer – planning for transfer to take about an hour, so is really just a quick bit of lounge tourism!
You won’t be able visit the T3 lounges, unfortunately, you will need to transfer to T5, clear passport control and security, then you will have access to the T5 lounges prior to your connecting flight.
Thanks @NorthernLass.
I’ve read on other fora that it was possible eg T3 transfers head back into T3 departures (told don’t necessarily need a ticket with a flight departing T3), access lounge, and then transfer to T5. That advice may be out of date or incorrect of course…
In all though it probably isn’t going to be worth the hassle with only 3 hours anyway, I’ll just need to book a Finnair trip via HEL sometime to get my T3 lounge taster instead!
I don’t think it’s been possible for some time, but as you say, it’s probably better to get yourself to T5 and see how much time you have left.
There are quite a few BA routes from T3 still, short-haul includes VIE, GIB, PRG, LYS. There’s a thread on Flyertalk about these.
