Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Help between BA Avios or Cathy Asia miles booking

  • 18 posts

    Hi Guys

I could really use some help,

I found a one way business class flight from HGK – DBX.

On Cathy pacific, the price is 45,000 miles + £160 ish in tax. However on BA executive, the same flight is 66,000 avios + 330 ish in tax.

All my points are in avios, but i feel the Cathy option is better as it is less miles and taxes (so less cash)

Is there an option to use my avios to use 45,000 miles or can I somehow transfer avios to Cathy so I can use the 45,000 miles option

    Really would like some feedback
    Thank you
    Scott

You cannot transfer from BA to Cathay. You can transfer Amex, HSBC or Marriott (and probably others) to Cathay.

I think you can buy marriot at a discount atm

@memesweeper @royback thank you for replies. Would BA match the avios amount if I called them or is that not an option. I just don’t want to end up paying more taxes and using more miles.

    Thank you

Not an option @dreamflyer1. That’s just not how things work, every frequent flyer programme sets its own pricing (both in terms of amount of points, as well as taxes/fees they wish to charge).

@mzb thank you, I understand. Seems a shame that I transferred all my points into BA, from Amex. Also I am fairy new to the points world so please forgive me for my limited knowledge.

@dreamflyer1 we’ve all started from the bottom. Yes unfortunately you have no choice now to but to get more MRs or look for a different way.

Also, one bit of advice for future reference is to only transfer your MR from Amex to the airline when you are ready to book.
