@QwertyKnowsBest – your comments sound eerily like those of Volvo corporate! The whole point is that this isn’t actually a software issue; there’s often a defect that is causing the software to fail. There may also be an issue with the OTA updates.

This issue is also happening to older XC-40 models despite many software recalls. The XC-40 in question that has Sensus was manufactured in June 2023.

I am quite capable of distinguishing forum reports that are just angry rants vs those that cogently set out facts and incidents. They also aren’t the same people reporting the same incidents multiple times and the regulatory ones definitely aren’t duplicated as they require the VIN. Such reports, with remarkably similar facts can be found in Brazil, US, Canada, UK, Germany, Sweden and Australia. I don’t think people make reports to regulatory bodies lightly.

No, not Volvo corporate. Just putting some context and correction that may assist you in whatever your quest is.

And yes, almost every later model of car is as much computer and software with all it’s related consequence, as it is metal box with wheels.

@QwertyKnowsBest – thank you. The quest is simple – to get Volvo to accept rejection of the car or it will be sold and they will be sued for the difference.

For all those here who complain about BA or even IB denying statutory rights and making patently untrue statements, you should try Volvo; they make BA look incredibly professional and competent. Quite an eye opener.

Interestingly, I was charged an additional days rental.
This isn’t communicated clearly as far as I can tell, and I only noticed it when I glanced at my Amex online account.
After some exchange of emails (apparently no telephone support available, even for status members?) they advised the additional 4 hours rental on the return date is an Amex CDP benefit and nothing to do with Hertz status. I guess I should have read Rob’s article from last year a bit better.
Still doesn’t explain why they felt the need to charge.
The charge has now been overturned.

The additional 4 hours wasn’t a problem on my previous rentals (EV and non-EV cars included), so something to keep an eye on after returning a vehicle I guess.

In other news, I see an article in the FT about Hertz renegotiating the purchase of the 65000 Polestars they’d originally agreed too.

Did you add the extra 4 hours at the time of reservation?

My experience had been that if you do that, you won’t be billed for it. But if you (say) reserve from 1030 to 1030 but bring it back at 1400, then you’ll be charged.

Yeah I did it when booking.
Same as my previous few rentals.
e.g. pickup at 11:00 – return at 15:00 (and ensuring I’m well within that window). Price was correct when I prepaid.

The problem as I see it is no warning of the additional day charge, and having to use email to correspond (the livechat (when it is working) will log a ticket and get someone to email you a few days later).
