Hi all, just as the title really
Going both phuket first then bangkok and want to go to 1 of the decent bars overlooking thr city
I guess a bar in bangkok would be best but any reccomendations would be great
Thanks
I’ve never been to Phuket, but I’ve been to Bangkok and had dinner and drinks at the bar and restaurant that was featured in one of the Hangover movies -the Sky bar at the top of the Lebua. It was easy to get to from the MO, the views were great and the people watching was hilarious. I took my mum and she was fascinated. My main tips were to watch the weather as it is mostly outdoor (I think they would shelter restaurant goers, but not bar patrons) and obviously go in good time for the sunset if you can.
I believe there are newer and higher options in BKK now, (Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar) but even though it is an obvious tourist trap, it is always fun to go to the place you see on TV and the movies and now you’ve been there, at least for one drink!
We want to Red Sky and it seemed plenty high enough. What I liked (my acrophobic OH not so much) was that the top floor was very much the top of the building with a glass wall around it and no obstructions. The drinks must have been OK as we ordered more.

I’d recommend against the Lebua rooftop bar tbh. I’ve been to several and it’s the only one that felt like an outright tourist trap. The service is overbearing, and the drinks are more than double the cost of most rooftop bars (1200 for a basic cocktail at Lebua, vs. 490 at Octave for example, both December 2024).
Vertigo and Octave are both pretty good. I also enjoyed “Above 11” but it’s not particularly high.
Yeah Banyan Tree still the best all round I think. In addigion to those mentioned there’s the RC, Kimptom and Sindhorn. For cheaper views take a drink out on to the terraces of Icon Siam or have a drink at True cafe on the cinema level at the top of Terminal 21 (used to be a free cinema lobby view before they set up the cafe). On the food store level (one down from the cinena IIRC) thd fokd centre had great views for thr orjce of a drink or a £2 food centre lunch but it has been converted to a resraurant in last few years.
We did Lebua (which still seems to dine out on its reputation from the Hangover movie) as well as Vertigo (as staying at Banyan Tree) and rated Vertigo much better for a decent meal with views.
Out of lebua, vertigo and octave which has the better food?
Also cost wise are both vertigo and ovatave similar?
Agree with others, many option to choose from, also if I’m not mistaken are you not required to wear long trousers at the top of the Lebua? I did hear of people being turned away, and there was a Thai gentleman at the lobby selling trousers to would be visitors. I was last there 8 years ago, so the policy may have changed now.
