How do I enrol a supplementary cardholder in hotel status benefits?

I upgraded by Gold card to Platinum back in February. I’ve just started enrolling myself in the hotel status benefits and I’d like to do the same for my supplementary cardholder but I can’t see any obvious means of doing so.

When I log in I can see ‘Platinum Benefits’ under the ‘Benefits & Help’ menu. From there I can access ‘Manage Benefits’ to view my benefit enrolment summary. However, my supplementary cardholder doesn’t get the ‘Platinum Benefits’ link when she logs in.

Am I correct in thinking that the supplementary cardholder also receives the hotel status benefits? If so, how do I enrol my supplementary cardholder?

I’d be grateful for any pointers!

We used the chat function. It was sorted within days.

The supplementary card holder has to create their own account, then just apply for the benefits on the appropriate page. I did one last week for my daughter. Very simple. The PP card comes automatically.

My supplementary cardholder has her own online account. However, she doesn’t have access to the same benefits enrolment pages that I do.

AmEx seem to have messed up the upgrade of the supplementary card – it was originally a gold supplementary. My supplementary never received her PP card and I’ve currently got an outstanding query with AmEx related to that. In hindsight, perhaps I should have cancelled the Gold supp, upgraded my card and then reissued the supplementary card.

I can give it a go but my experience with the chat agents is that they’ve generally been utterly useless, even giving me incorrect information – e.g. supplementary platinum cardholder doesn’t get a PP card.

Perhaps I will have to try calling them again, although that’s a hassle too due to their dreadful IVR system.

I’m 100% sure this is still the case, but…… It was last time we had a Platinum, but the option still isn’t there on the site and Chat today told me it was primary cardholder only. I’ll try again tomorrow.

Have they tried logging into Amex and going to https://www.americanexpress.com/en-gb/benefits/get-started/the-platinum-card/ it has them all listed there. The second option – enrol – has the hire car and hotel status benefits.

Was their Platinum card activated via their account or yours?

Thanks for this. While it didn’t work (it still failed when I click through), I was able to send it to Chat and eventually got helped. Two out of four didn’t understand, even with the link….
