Hi all,
I have had AMEX cards for years but have never felt confident trying to refer friends and family so have never tried to refer from my cards before. However, a family member who was interested in starting to collect AVIOS and knew I had AMEX cards approached me for a referral link yesterday and I was more than happy happy to oblige with a referral from my Platinum. Apparently they have now been approved for the card though I have not had any notification that the referral has tracked.
I was just curious to hear from people who have made successful referrals in the past as to what the process was around this and when you would find out if the referral had been successful and how long the points take to credit?
Thanks
I referred a friend from my Amex Plat on Tuesday and she applied and was accepted for the Amex Gold on the same day. This morning I got the email from Amex confirming the successful referral and that I would be credited 12,000 MR points.
I think I’ve only had 1 referral where Amex have notified me. Usually the points seem to post around 36-48 hours later.
This latest Gold offer had been hugely successful for me, managed to get 7 referrals from my Gold! 6x 14k MR and the last one only 6k as I had reached the 90k limit for the year. Annoyingly its 90k max per calendar year not card year.
Thanks for the datapoints, hopefully they will appear quite soon then.

How on earth did you manage that!

As this year my wife now understands points a lot better, and told a lot of her friends about it! I have told them all to refer their partners for the BAPP when there’s next an enhanced SUB, as they’ll need it to make LH J redemptions likely.
Wow, well done. I made 5 referrals last year which maxed me out as some were at a bonus rate. None at all this membership year. And I struggle to see any group from where referral possibilities would come from. Not helped by the fact family & friends are Irish and in Ireland. Maybe I need to turn up at school gates for a while, gloss over the fact I have no child with me, and just style it out till I get invited for the post-drop off coffees.

Thanks. I was helped by the fact that one of the friends also got her husband to apply using my link on the last day, as her card never arrived in time to generate her own referral link. I too have run out of viable referral options, I think! Although, two of my nephews turn 18 this year…
My last referral did not credit as usual
– Told to wait 30 days
– Then told to wait 10 weeks
– Now 10 weeks have passed, I apparently have to convince the referred person to call Amex and complain from their end, which they say they will do (reluctantly). They absolutely used the referral link correctly, I’ve seen the screenshots.
No way am I going through this for a referral again – so I won’t bother with any more.
Cancelling Platinum once this is done, taking out hire car excess insurance, travel insurance – and buying lounge passes if not flying biz class.
Platinum only makes sense with referral and retention bonuses, unfortunately.

It’s also in the referred person’s best interest to ensure that Amex tracked that they used the referral, so that they get the higher SUB.
