Discuss today's stories:
I have not got my head round all the changes BA made last year to the Avios scheme as we were on holiday at the time and have returned to a family illness so apologies if already discussed. I am a reader of Head for Points and hope that Rob writes a summary of all the changes (now that the dust has settled, or has it?)! Are the changes a general devaluation?
We always get a MAN-LHR flight with our redemptions, am I correct in my recollection that historically we only redeemed Avios for our long haul and there were no Avios deducted for the shuttle flight with a 2-4-1 redemption?
We have redeemed our first voucher (CE/CW) since the changes and the number of Avios deducted was much higher (170000) than I expected, though the taxes/surcharges were much less (£700). We fly MAN-LHR on the 23rd October, LHR-BOS 24th October and return 31st October and arrive in MAN on 1st November. All off-peak flights. The number of Avios required seem to have increased significantly! Is there a reference source for how many Avios you need for different destinations? Head for Points had a How many Avios do I need to fly to ….? page but needs updating or I may have a link to an old page?
When you book it there is a drop down menu to decrease or increase the Avios you use and the cash element changes pro rata.
So you could have decreased the Avios and increased the cash to similar levels as what you got before the change

Rob ran a series of articles on this a few weeks back…..sounds like this one relates to your circumstances, but probably worth reading the other ‘stuffed’ articles

Now that your holiday and hopefully also your family illness are out of the way, can I suggest you read the articles that were written about the changes.
Perhaps also take a moment to imagine how messy the site could become if every article about a points-related change had to be repeated/summarised every time a reader of the site had some life event that prevented them from reading the original article about said change.
Thanks nectar collector, I had bookmarked the series of articles Rob published at the time (Stuffed #) and planning to read in the next week. I wondered whether Rob (or anyone else) had written anything since to update/summarise the changes?

There was an introductory 2 part article

But the implications for difference scenarios are covered in more detail in the ‘Stuffed’ series, so recommend you read these to get the full picture
