Forums Payment cards American Express How to pay with AmEx when retailer does not accept AmEx or PayPal

  • 8 posts

I have a large holiday payment to make but the tour company does not accept Amex (personal BA premium card) There are companies such as Kasheesh who offer a virtual Mastercard or multiple virtual credit cards which then charge your AmEx for a 2% fee but it seems Kasheesh is not available in the UK.
Is there any equivalent companies offering a similar service to Kasheesh in the uk? NOTE PayPal is not an option as the amount is over their credit limit.
With the increase in minimum spend on the BA AmEx and the reluctance of some retailers to accept AmEx, achieving a companion voucher and increased tier status is becoming an issue.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can look at Apron but they have VERY strict B2B requirements so you are unlikely to pass muster. You’d need to register as a company yourself and be paying a company for what looks like a B2B transaction.

Can you do multiple smaller payments on Paypal over a period of a few days?

I seem to remember that HfP suggested another company, a few months ago, similar to Apron who did not seem to be as strict. Does it ring any bells with the team?

Thought about that but as I need to pay over £30k I think multiple payments would trigger concerns,

A friend who cruises suggests to call Call Noble Caledonia at +44 20 7752 0000 and request to pay by American Express. Provide your booking reference and card details. He did this a couple of years ago so hopefully you can too

Is Google Pay or Apple Pay an option? I know vendors sometimes disable Amex but may not in this case.

I did ask when paying the deposit and was told AmEx not accepted however probably worth a try for the balance … indicate it could be a deal breaker!

You’re thinking of Bluechain, but they no longer work https://www.headforpoints.com/2025/05/16/bluechain-and-american-express-part-ways/

Yes that’s the one. Thanks for the update.

How many payments would that be?

And the cruise company may not like it either creating extra work for them.

Ans yes it would likely trigger an account review and the consequences of that which could include them closing the account.

I paid a Noble Caledonia balance of about £20k using their online payment page in about 4 parts at the end of last year, so no problem with that end. They were categoric that Amex wouldn’t be accepted, though!

The issue is not making multiple payments to Noble Caledonia, they are not going to care about three or four payments instead of one. The concern is rightly whether multiple payments through Paypal would trigger anything on the Paypal side, and I imagine it would need to be a lot more than four.

I have never taken an interest in cruises.
    Is £30k considered high end?
I suppose the answer is going to be something like “depends where you’re going, for how long, with how many others”

Thanks for all your comments and advice.
I will be making payments early next year so will update at that time to advise success or otherwise.

Oddly enough I’ve found a few instances of travel agents who won’t accept Amex on online e-commerce portals, but who are more than happy to accept when settling over the phone. Good luck!
