Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club I made a stupid mistake. Should I ask the airline to fix?

Oh, how I laughed at Rhys, literally a professional frequent flyer, and his mistake with his brother’s name.

I’ve gone and done pretty much exactly the same things. Two passengers, I’m one, I’ve put the obvious British contraction of the first name of my travelling companion. Avios booking, in Club, with a Barclays Upgrade voucher in play. Departure Friday from London, Heathrow. Do I…

    (a) call BA and ask for a fix — which is presumably a cancel-and-rebook affair, this is not a three character change
    (b) print our own boarding passes, I’ll nip to the bag drop, hope it’s not spotted (or cared about) at the gate
    (c) ask for a change at check-in

there are still Avios seats available so (a) should be non-insanely priced; the return is a cash ticket, and fortunately I didn’t mess that one up as well.

a quick check online suggests I have to have all the travel docs for all the passengers, so (b) might be problematic… we have at least one bag in the hold

Live chat or phone first then fall back on other options. You don’t know until you ask them.

Is the mistake on one PNR? I’d call BA to resolve it. If there’s still Avios seats available then it shouldn’t be a problem to cancel and rebook.

Alternatively do a separate booking fir your other passenger. Then call BA to split the 1st PNR and cancel reservation for the wrongly spelled passenger for a refund.

Yes, one PNR, seats available. Cost for that one-way will be £ 70 I assume (£ 35 per person)?

Cost for that £ 35, refund of £ 12.50 I hope, plus new TFCs of £ 37.00 if I go for the option that uses the same number of Avios as before (9,750). Marginally cheaper than a full cancel and rebook, thanks for the suggestion.

Recent DP for long haul. Discovered whilst looking at CC statement was charged £35 to split into PNR 1 & 2 and another £35 to cancel PNR 2. This was all done on one call with the same CS. Thought was taken for a ride.

Decision made then – cancel and rebook the whole thing online. Avoids surprise fees. Fingers crossed the voucher comes back immediately!

Have you actually tried contacting them? Might save you a load of messing about
