Has anyone had any success getting expired Iberia Plus Avios reinstated?
Mine seemed to disappear a couple of months ago, unbeknownst to me. Clearly my fault given my lack of activity over the past 36 months, however I didn’t get any email or other form of communication beforehand.
Hard no-mercy expiry as I recall.
Anyone else have experience of this?
Weigh up the hassle of dealing with IB when considering whether it’s worth it. Absolute shambles.
Your post @jsto has reminded me to check if my few thousand Avios are still there – they are!
Can’t transfer to BAEC due to the ‘last name includes middle name’ bug. If anyone is in the same position, I’ve put in a personal data management request in, from here and will update the forum if/ when successful.
(In the meantime, I’ve transferred to Amex points to try and make sure the Avios are kept alive).

Careful – a transfer doesn’t always keep accounts alive. Check out this unfortunate fellow.
Very interesting link to flyertalk. So I suppose Iberia considers Amex transfers as activity but not BA transfers.
So what happens if:
– you transfer Amex points setting the clock to 0
– 3 years elapse you lose those points
– you transfer BA Avios to Iberia … do they immediately disappear? or does IB check periodically and not every second?I can see why BA-IB transfers are treated that way, as you could rinse and repeat for ever BA-IB-BA…
Let’s hope that an Amex one-way only one works. I’m also looking at the eRewards survey mentioned in the flyertalk thread, but that is currently ‘system outage, please try later’ 😀

pretty miserable approach from IB, at the end of the day, we’re talking about stopping points expiring, not generating new points. Any activity should stop expiry really
I asked on Flyertalk and seems that if you pasar the 3 yrs threshold and you transfer your BA Avios they can immediately disappear.
What’s the best way to not fly and extend validity of Iberia Avios?
IB+ normally send out a warning email 3 months before expury. If none was received I quote that in any appeal for points back. If email received then I don’t see why IB+ should reinstate any expired avios excepting exceptional circumstances.
Got an email yesterday informing me my 2000 Avios will expire in 3 months . Was thinking to transfer from BA to keep alive , but seems a ‘no go’ and I don’t have any MR points. So looks as if I’ll lose them

you can transfer to BA and not lose them. Your Iberia account won’t stay open though I guess after some time? That’s my concern

Same email for me yesterday, but managed to push all remaining points from Iberia to BA via combine my avios on Iberia site (didn’t work for me as a pull from BA site).
https://www.iberia.com/gb/combine-my-avios/Not confident about what would happen to those points if I tried to send them back to Iberia, but would hope that any new earn into BA should reset the expiry of all Avios?
I seem to remember reading about someone who moved a load of avios to IB and they expired immediately because there had been no activity for over 3 years previously.
Might be worth Rob/Rhys doing an article on easy / cheap ways of earning Avios in Iberia and Aer lingus to keep accounts active. Things like the respective shopping portals etc

Easiest would be to have an Amex rewards (Gold or Free) and just transferring a few Avios to IB every 3 years.
It has been said that a BA to IB transfer won’t reset the clock. But if you use Avios in IB to buy a ticket, does it count as “activity”?

I received an email from IB last week to say my name had been updated. The Amex points have registered, and so far I’ve not received a expiry email from IB.
I’ve not been back to eRewards to see if that now works – may be a possibility for those receiving the expiry warning?
