Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards IC Barcelona Ambassadors Cert – 4 night stay

  • 29 posts

Looking at going to Barcelona for 4 nights, staying at the Intercontinental using my Ambassadors Cert.

If I book a higher category room for the first 2 nights using the cert, and make a separate booking on a lower category room for the following two – Are they likely to make us check out of the room after 2 nights and move into the lower category room on the seperate booking?

Has anyone got experience of booking stays longer that 2 nights when using Ambassadors Certs, and what do you do?

It’s my first year of Ambassador memberships so this is new to me.

    Thank you.

To be on the safe side you should assume that you would have to move (eg if you book a Club/Suite and then a basic King) but it really depends on the occupancy level of the hotel and the policy of management at the individual property.

Your best bet might be to read the property thread for IC Barcelona on FlyerTalk to get an idea of how likely it is (I haven’t stayed there myself).

What I generally do is book a room I’m happy to stay in with the certificate then other nights on cash or points in the lowest category room. Then contact the hotel and ask that in lieu of an upgrade, can we stay in the nicer room for the whole stay. I’ve never been refused and once or twice got an upgrade on top of the request. I always make it clear that I don’t want to move rooms, and suggest that this will make housekeeping easier for them as well!
