Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards IC O2 – Amb free night cert

  • 136 posts

Planning a trip to London at the end of February half term and am keen to try the IC O2 whilst also making use of my Amb free night cert. We’ll have kids in tow (8 & 6) so looking at King Junior Suite and upwards.

What’s real world experience as far as upgrades are concerned and what category of room am I best booking to maximise true upgrade potential (I.e. not a higher floor or better view)? Rates are approx £100 cheaper for King Junior Suite than they are for 1 Bed Suite, but step up from higher floor better view King Junior to 1 Bed is only £10.

Happy to pay the 1 Bed Suite rate if that’s the best option.

Be careful with the O2 and check everything in advance. I had a couple of BOGOF bookings which were cancelled during the pandemic and was told that will only upgrade to the 1 bed suite as a maximum, and if available. So if you book that, you won’t get an upgrade. They’ve also pushed prices up to silly levels recently and come up with multiple daft categories, presumably so they can say they are upgrading you without giving you too much.
Best thing is to email them in advance and get them to guarantee what upgrade you will get in writing.

Thanks Anna. Anyone with other experiences?

I’ve stayed 4 times with young kids (as spire and diamond not ambassador). Upgrades every time has been to better views/higher floor junior suites but the same room. So I think chances of a material upgrade are low unless you book a high floor city view junior suite.

    More generally:

    1. Sofa beds weren’t great (spent 2 nights on it whilst the kids slept in the bed.
    2. Pool is nice but was cold on our most recent stay earlier this year.
    3. If you’re driving be careful with the car park as they ticket anyone who parks outside the marked spaces – reason I mention is if there is a concert on the car park becomes absolute carnage.
    4. Similarly, If there’s a concert on make sure you book for dinner if you want to eat in the hotel.
