If I check into a hotel on 27/2 for a weeks stay before I get downgraded on 1/3, would I still receive the free breakfast benefit during the duration of my stay or would the breakfast benefit be valid for 27/2 and 28/2 only?

I think technically it would only apply for for the 28th (you won’t get it on the day you check in), however hotel staff might not bother checking your account status once you’re there so you may get lucky. Is the hotel one which issues vouchers for breakfast as that would be a clue?!
Also IHG IT is really weird just now so you may not get busted back down after 28/2, my friend was Platinum last year, bought Ambassador to try and retain it for this year and found she’d been promoted to Diamond on January 1st!

Has anyone had first hand, or even know of reliable 2nd hand, experience of a hotel downgrading service part way through a stay because the customers status has changed? Happy to be enlightened by someone with more hotel experience but I’d be suprised if hotels do this remotely regularly, so would suggest you’d be unlucky not to get treated based on whatever status you checked in with. The work for the hotel to do this, instead of just using your current status at check in, both in tracking what your status is and varying the service seems way more effort than it’s worth for the tiny number of cases where it matters and most wouldn’t want to frustrate the customer that way.

At IHG, the hotels do see your full account account details incl. expiry of membership, the number of points in the account, any vouchers you might have, etc. They might do or not do something with the information.

I am always horrified when they write out a card with exactly how many points I have.

I’m aware of that, and I don’t think my point relied on the idea they didn’t have access to information; although they definitely don’t have all the information they need to know for certain whether a guests status will change at a point in the future. No one is debating whether they could do something, the question is whether they do in practice. The only way to know that for sure is to have practical experience of the situation which is why I was asking if anyone was aware of a hotel downgrading someone’s service part way through a stay because their status expired as I’m not.

Assuming I get downgraded to Club on the 1/3 since there’s no soft landing announced at this point of time. Would I get a nice surprise at check out that I have been charged for breakfast from the point I stop being a diamond member at check in or is the breakfast added into their system upon check in and that’s that.

As mentioned, it was said they can see the expiry date of status, does it mean when they check me in they would know I didn’t re-qualify for diamond status?

I just remembered that the Diamond breakfast benefit is for the duration of your stay – I don’t think it specifies you must be Diamond for the entire duration. But seriously, have you contacted the hotel and asked what the process is? If it’s vouchers, you will know when you get them! Which hotel is it anyway?
