I am travelling to Jersey for a business trip for a few days. I have not been before. I had a q: could I buy a macbook pro whilst there? It looks like they do not charge VAT.
Would there be any disadvantage to this? Would it still have warranty/able to have AppleCare etc?
Would it be liable for VAT on returning to London? Is this a realistic prospect?
You are required to declare goods bought abroad in excess of £390 on arrival in the UK and to pay duty and tax on the full sum if the individual article exceeds £390. Some here might tell you not to bother declaring it, but it’s a criminal offence the purchase will be well documented and obviously you wouldn’t want to be claiming it as a business expense if undeclared.
Jersey has a 5% GST so it’s actually cheaper in Guernsey.
