I am considering booking a flight out of Heathrow T3 on Easter Sunday 2025. As I can be flexible with my dates, am I mad to be considering Easter Sunday?
Just how busy does it get on the approach roads to Heathrow and then through the usual process of check-in (CW), security and lounges. Any knowledge and advice appreciated, thanks.
I don’t think Easter Sunday 2025 will be too bad as far as school holiday periods go, as it’ll be right at the end of the break for most schools and people will be more likely to be returning than leaving the country. Also Sunday is quite a good day to travel if you’re on the road in the morning or early evening.
Also, where are you planning to go, as Easter weekend may or may not be a big deal at your destination?!
I also think Easter Sunday is an unlikely day for strike action, but keep an eye out for any announcements nearer the time, obviously.

Thanks for that. I understand that Easter this year was busier than usual because it coincided with schools breaking up, or something along those lines.
We will be heading for Vegas. We have been many times before, I don’t think Easter is an especially busy period.

That’s right. Most schools broke up on the Thursday before Good Friday this year.
I don’t have a lot of experience as I avoid Easter, but often congestion/delays abound both at the airport and travel to/from. Always a good time for everyone to strike or threaten to do so. Personally I’d avoid it, but YMMV. Good luck.

Be very mindful that whilst Easter is likely to be at the very end of the school Spring holidays, it’s also a fantastic time to head off for people without Sprogs in 2025.
Friday 18th April – Good Friday
Monday 21st April – Easter Monday
Monday 5th May – Mayday!
It’s one of those rare years when you can have a continuous 18 days off work for the cost of 9 days holiday.
So who knows. There’s effectively 4 potential outbound days for a fortnight’s holiday.
On Thurs before Good Friday my usual cab ride to Heathrow of 35 mins took 1hr 55mins. I swore to never again travel the evening before a bank holiday.
The VS private security lane was closed too and T3 fast track anything but. Not helped by an utterly objectionable leisure traveller who would not listen to the staff and took all her items out then tossed her jacket on top – which duly fell off and got stuck inside the detection machine. Her trays emerged fine but everyone else’s got rejected till she eventually volunteered up the info that her jacket had yet to appear.
I can’t comment on T3 this year, but T4 on Easter Sunday was fine. Check in and security weren’t that busy (late morning). Schools across the country often break at different times, so it’s not always the case that everyone is heading to the airport. This year some schools broke up on Good Friday, others the end of the following week.
I think it’s difficult to predict. More likely strikes or technical issues will have a bigger effect.
