Discuss today's stories:
Hi all, so I am booking a flight from LHR to BGW and BA split the flight:
LHR to AMM (BA)
AMM to BGW (RJ)
When I try to book this online I get an error and asked to contact the call centre. I contacted them, and they calculated the taxes at £450 per adult. However, if I book these as 2 separate legs then the total tax is only £132 per person. Why is this the case?
Also, if I book 2 separate legs will the T5 staff check my baggage through?
Thank you!
Incase anyone else needs to look this up, BGW is Baghdad.
The “taxes” are an amalgam of airport fees, government charges and something called a carrier surcharge, often referred to as YQ. It’s little more than a made up figure which allows airlines to pad fares for accounting reasons and will vary wildly. Have you tried booking both legs on RJ? If LHR isn’t available, try STN or even MAN as the departure point. I suspect you will get a more favourable outcome for the cash component and the Avios will probably be lower, too.
ITA matrix doesn’t seem to find any BA to RJ cash fares

No.
£ 450 is only 3.5 times more than £ 132 not 5 times.
Random dates I’m putting in the BA app only route via DOH on QR not RJ
How are you actually pricing this up and what are your dates?
Are you trying to book an Avios redemption flight @mrpepesman ?
