They asked us not to write about it until tomorrow in case it wasn’t live at 6am when the email would have gone out.

Just a follow on if you already hold the card…

If you refer someone you will now get 15k points for referral, and the new card holder will get 63k points!

    Application dilemma:

    – Amex customer services (on chat, then on the phone and escalated to the new accounts team) say I’ve never previously held this card and I’m entitled to the welcome bonus
    – I think I held it, then closed and settled it, exactly two years ago
    – it’s settled on my Equifax credit file slightly less than two years ago

If I wait to the date on the credit file I loose the enhanced bonus… take customer service at their word and apply now?

I have had the Amex personal platinum and BAPP card in the last 12 months so unlikely to qualify for the bonus. I assume there isnt any other advantage to this card? American airline transfer is only advantage that i can think of. Marriott 15 elite nights are not much use and already have marriott gold thru Amex plat business.

The airline transfers aren’t bad *but* they are particularly good for United (works out 1 united mile per £ I think) and particularly poor for American AAdvantage, Avianca LifeMiles, Delta SkyMiles and Korean Air SKYPASS (0.6 miles per £)

    Hasn’t United devalued now?

I’d have got this card for Turkish as their chart was very good inspite of rubbish website and customer service, but they suddenly devalued recently.

The only other airline that can be worth spending on this card is SQ. but if you want SQ, you are better off getting hsbc premier.

hmmmm…seems no pressing reason to get this card

@memesweeper Never take Amex CS at their word. The account closed date on your credit file is what they will have squirrelled away in their systems somewhere and you’ll be held to it.

Hi, does anyone know if I hold the British Airways Amex card, but didn’t reach the spend target to get the sign up bonus, am I eligible to sign up for this card and get the sign up bonus since I’ve never received one?

    From Rob’s article yesterday:

“Do I qualify for the sign-up bonus?
To receive the bonus, you cannot have had a personal American Express® Card in the previous 24 months.

    You CAN apply if:

You currently have, or have had in the past 24 months, an American Express® Business Card
You currently have, or have had in the past 24 months, a Supplementary Card on your partner’s American Express Account”

@Killak no. You can only get Plat doesnt matter if you did or didnt get SUB.

Hi, my folks had plat cards until a year ago and currently each have the amex BAPP, would they qualify for the SUB on the Marriott card ?

I have a vague memory of there being some rule that you could only earn a SUB if you hadn’t had a card earning THAT type of Points in the past two years…..is this correct ?
Meaning MR points , Avios and Bonvoy points are all different points and thus each one can be earned at the same time.
    Is this correct ?
    Was it ever ?!

    Cheers.

It used to be the case a few years ago, but is now more strict. Only BAPP and Platinum cards follow the above rule.

    Hi,

Is anyone aware of how long it takes for a new application to go through approval. I applied on Sunday but have not heard anything back as of yet.

Did you get an acknowledgement on screen that it was submitted? But today is the first working day after the bank holiday weekend so I wouldn’t expect a more detailed response just yet.

It’s been 12 days now and still not received anything from Amex. No approval or rejection. Rang in quite a few times but told that they cannot do anything, they are awaiting a decision from the approvals team.

Does anyone know if I can cancel and re-apply? Would I still be eligible for the sign up bonus?
