Marriott card – How many points at Marriott?

Hi All! I’m slightly confused about how many points one earns by for spend at Marriott using the Amex Marriott card.
The HfP article states it’s £6 (3x of regular).
However the Amex site says “You will receive 6 x points when you spend at eligible Marriott properties. The points are an accelerated bonus and separate to the earn rate (2 points per £1).”
So the latter would mean that you get total 8 points per £1 of spend. Is that correct?

You make a very valid point, and one which puzzled me only yesterday after a stay in Marriott Cologne earlier this week!
I can confirm the reward for that stay was indeed 6 points per £1 spend, but the wording you quote in my opinion is both confusing and contradictory, and implies 8 per £1 to me also.
