Final destination Phuket connecting via SIN
BA11 LHR SIN 1855 1555 +1 into T1
Option A SQ740 SIN HKT 1830 1920 (departs fr T2)
Option B TR690 SIN KBV 2140 2230 (departs fr T1)
Q1. Assuming BA11 arrives SIN on time, is option A even feasible if we need to clear immigration/luggage & get to T2?
Q2. If we missed SQ740, would SQ be inclined to assist & rebook us onto TR690 given they belong to the same group? (Could not see TR flight on SQ website & vice versa, so they are not code sharing).
Q3. Option B may be the safest (but requires an extra hour or so drive arriving close to midnight)?
Ps Jetstar had a later direct SIN HKT which was ideal but been cancelled.
I’d go for SQ personally, reviewing the performance of BA11 you’d have been very unlucky to miss in the past couple of months, 2.5hrs is plenty of time on the ground. I don’t know if it is documented formally anywhere but you can go to T2 remaining airside and ask SQ to pick up the bags and tag them for you. Or you’ll have enough time to collect yourself and take to T2 and check back in.
That said if you want it to be less fraught then the Scoot option also is not bad, you can take your bags to the early check in facility in the jewel and drop them, go to the lounge there for a shower and then explore and have some dinner before you go back airside, or drop off with Scoot and go into one of the paid lounge options etc.
SQ will not rebook to TR on a standalone ticket but outside of holiday period buying a new ticket shouldn’t be ruiniously expensive and potentially insurance would cover it
BA11 flies through the narrow corridor between Ukraine and Iran. I wouldnt risk it even if am traveling alone or as a healthy couple who can dash through the airport, forget it if you or your partner is older or have kids traveling with you. While Changi is one of most efficient airports, i still wouldnt take the risk. The saving grace is that Changi has security check at each gate, therefore there is no massive queue to enter the airside.
The early flight doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room but I’d say has an 80% chance of success.
BA lands 1555, 20 minute taxi to gate, 20 mins walk to immigration, 10 mins to wait & collect bags.
It’s now 1645. But you’re landside in T1 and need to walk over to T2, so allow 15 mins.
SQ desk closes at 1750.
You have a 50 minute window that could quickly be consumed by bad weather in SIN, SQ changing the flight time, a reroute on your way, etc.
If you can tolerate the cost of new tickets then book the early flight but if not, I’d be eyeing a visit to the food court in the basement for sustenance. What’s your final destination though? Are you better off overnighting at SIN then flying straight to your preferred airport?
+1 to considering overnighting. You can drop your bags off at the jewel early check in for a morning flight and then go into the city, have some food and a wander around, maybe a swim etc to help with the time zone change. Then have a good sleep and return back to the airport in the morning, arriving phuket mid afternoon for hotel check in.
