Hi – newly minted Melia Gold through Amex Plat and just trying to understand the 20% voucher from yesterdays’ article.

Can’t see anything about it on the Melia website or when logged in – how does one go about getting a voucher please?

Have you checked your profile on the app?

Ah – excellent, thanks for that. I see it in the app – now that I have the app!

So, how do I use it? Do I need to click on exchange, and then search – or is it guaranteed 20% off the otherwise advertised rate? And if I click ‘Exchange’, is that an irreversible step?

Sorry for the Qs but I can’t seem to find any info about how to actually use it.

    Two ways to do it.

Firstly, in the app, select the voucher and exchange and it should take you to the search page with your code. Enter the dates and location and hit search. To check it is 20% off you can search before for the same dates and location.

On the website, go to your profile in your account find your voucher and copy the code. You should be able to paste into the Promotional code section on the booking search page.

Thanks – if I do the exchange, then search, but don’t book, what happens to the voucher?

PS: If I am missing some explanatory ‘how to use your voucher’ page, please let me know!

Stays in your account. Like “using” a voucher for online shopping, only used when the transaction takes place.

No FAQ on the use of voucher anywhere I know of.

Best value i’ve found is to book via the Mobile app which stacks with 5% mobile booking discount – so 25% all together.

Not quite, but close enough. You get the 20% off the already discounted price on the mobile app.

For example, if it is £1000 total for your stay on the website, your 5% discount would be £950. If you then use your 20% voucher, you receive a further £190 discount to make the total cost £760, or a 24% discount. Try it the other way round and you the same result of a £200 and then £40 discount.

I have tested it out on too many occasions between full price on the website and the fully discounted rate on the app to make sure that the discount is correct for any of Melia stays on my partner’s or my account.

Agree – it’s a straight and reliable 20% and can be combined with the 5% for in-app bookings. Just used it tonight to book ME Madrid for next month.

Also 2,000 points will usually give you approx €25-30 discount on in-app bookings and can also be used with discount codes.

Thanks everyone, I think I’ve got it working now.

Has anyone found a way to pay in the app using GBP? There is a new Amex offer available now for £75 off £300 spend which would combine with the voucher and 5% in-app discount as well. However, if it’s a particularly expensive booking, some of the savings would be negated by the FX given that you get charged in Euros if booking in the app despite being shown the price in GBP before clicking on ‘See Rates’.

Wot, wot, wot, voucher! Where am I supposed to see a voucher? Is this another of of the very many missing Amex offers?

Why is not of this ever easy, especially with Amex. It’s in the Melia app. Obviously. *sigh*

My app is in GBP, my OHs is in US$. We can’t find a way to switch it.

It does not matter which currency you select. Melia always processes payments in the local currency. You can easily check this on their website during the last step of the booking process.

That’s good to know, thank you.

My Melia membership year has just rolled over and the 20% codes have disappeared. I called up and they said it takes time to reappear but they didn’t know how long. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Between 3 and 10 business days I have found to be the case over the years.

Does anyone know if I will get the 20% off voucher back if I cancel a booking?

Will need to change some of my bookings and ideally would like to use the voucher again 😬

    Thanks!

@RV Yes, it goes back to your account when you cancel. Tried it yesterday!

Bumping as I have just booked Melia in Chiang Mai during lantern festival for a hideous amount of money, then read this thread and realised I might be able to save if I rebook it:
    – through the app to save 5%;
    – as a Gold (application for upgrade through Amex Plat just made) if I get discount vouchers.

Does anyone know if there are blackout dates or other restrictions on these vouchers that might stop me using them at a very popular time for a particular location ? My google skills haven’t flushed out any Ts and Cs.

Also, thanks to HfP and contributors for the existence of this thread. Hopefully will save me some cash 🙂

@occasionalranter if not too late for your dates, not at all unknown for Melia to offer (sometimes very) discounted vouchers during black friday in previous years.

@occasionalranter, depending on the rate and length of stay, you could recoup your entire plat card fee in one stay!

Lets us know how your stay goes!

Visiting chiang mai next year and the waterslides at Shangri la tilting odds in its favour at the moment.

I think this 20% discount is one of the most unheralded benefits of the Amex Plat card.

It saved me 800 Euros in Ibiza last month, and will be the same again in February next year.

And it is super easy and reliable to use.

@occasionalranter do check current rates versus your rate in case prices have risen.

If you have a refundable rate, you can book again with the voucher and in app discount, then cancel the old booking.

As far as blackout dates, I’ve never seen one in operation which includes New Year’s Eve. That’s not to say there are none at some properties.

When you sign up, you should receive 2,000 points too, so see how much that changes the overall price and consider if it is worthwhile. Anything over and above £30 difference would be better than their for spend at a hotel now the hotels are dynamically priced.
