Finally got my Barclays premier account open and my Barclays credit card account – took a while!
I can see I may be eligible for 25,000 Avios if I complete a full bank account switch within three months of opening Barclays avios rewards. When I logged in on the Barclays app, I can see an option to do a full bank switch where they will close my other bank account within seven days after moving all my direct debits.
I currently have an HSBC Premier account which I do not want to close ideally. I also have a Chase account ( I’m sure I can quickly add some direct debits to this account ) which I’m thinking of volunteering for the switch as I don’t mind too much if that gets closed… Do you think that will work? If you close chase you can never open it again.
As you have 3 months, you could probably open an account with any random bank, get some DDs and switch it
Ask HSBC to open a second current account for you. Set up a couple of DDs for small charitable donations then switch that one. Simples.
As you have three months for the switch, you may find you get the 25k well inside that period without actually switching…

Chase allows you to have up to 20 active accounts.
No Problem switching one to another provider which doesn’t affect your other Chase accounts.
Onepounddd allow a £1 direct debit. Monzo can be opened for switches.
Vanguard allows £1 DD to the general investment account and you can withdraw the money back out

Yes, I decided I wanted the account for the travel add-on/voucher etc but didn’t want to switch…Still got 25K avios sent to me without asking 🙂

That was my experience as well. I didn’t want to switch and didn’t expect the 25k but they turned up very quickly once I switched on Avios rewards which may be the trigger.

ThanksI opened my account on the 12th of the month, activated Avios rewards a couple of days later, got eligibility email on the 17th (for the 100k promotion at that time) and the unexpected 25k were credited in the usual monthly sweep, in the first couple of days of the next month.

Just had a look at the Avios rewards on my Barclays app and it shows “+25,000 Avios prem joining bonus”. I only joined this month. Nothing has been credited yet though and at the top it says “Avios you’ve collected with us zero”. I’ll wait and see what happens and update here! Hopefully the points will sweep across and I don’t have to do the account switch! 🙏Thanks again.
@sm – fingers crossed! I think the Avios collected with us line only updates after transfer. Anyway, you don’t have long to wait – the 25k should be transferred by 4 August (the second working day of the month). It’s sometimes at the very end of the day/overnight, so you may not see it until the next morning. I find that the 1500 Avios rewards ones usually come earlier in the day and always in a separate transaction

Interesting that you have gone for this account recently, JDB. Is it because you have the paid Avios card and want to reduce the fee?
Good morning. Quick question re: Barclays Avios rewards. I joined the rewards scheme early July 2025 ( shortly after opening a premier current account ) but did not perform the account switch yet as a couple of helpful posters mentioned they got paid it without switching so wanted to wait and see 🙏
“Avios prem joining bonus +25000” undated entry appeared at top of the list on my app ( since July ) when I check activity but hasn’t been paid yet. Two lots of regular monthly amount of 1500 has however been paid to date.
On my welcome email it says it will be credited after the fourth month if performing a current account switch within 3 months of joining the scheme.
Has anyone recently received the bonus without actually preforming the switch please?
