Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club New tier point system

  • 2 posts

I have just been on BA package holiday paid with BA Premium Amex card. I’ve only been awarded the tier points for the flight and Not The total spend. The form on BA website for list tier points does not reflect the new system in my opinion. Has anyone else had the same problem and did they get the amount rewarded. Thanks

You need to wait a couple of weeks after the entire trip is flown before chasing the extra TPs from a BA holiday.

They don’t post at the same time.

What you see now must be the bonus tier points. In one or two weeks you will see the £ paid / by number of passengers credited as tier points.

On the new holiday tier points. If my holiday is £7500 I will get the 7500 tier points need for silver? Now if the return flight is on the 31st March 2026 and lands the same day will this be ok to jump to silver if there is a delay in applying the bonus points which likely be in the following tier point year. Or will I be ok to get Silver.

If it was just you on the holiday then you will get 7500 tier points, and make silver. Even if they post in the next year then you should get it, as long as the last flight took off in the current year. Might require a phone call though if you’re unlucky and it doesn’t sort it automatically.

If there re 2 (or more) on the holiday then the tier points are shared out, so you would get 3750 (or fewer).

I had a flight on 31 March 2025, that posted correctly but didn’t trigger my silver qualification. I had to message in to get it looked at.

That’s a bit of a self-contradiction as it didn’t really post correctly, but I know what you mean. Sadly in that scenario the BA system manages to add the TP to the lifetime total and (correctly) not add it to the post March 31st year, but fails to correctly apply it to the previous year.

In contrast I find IHG very good. Recently completed a four night stay two days after a promotion finished and had visually disappeared from my account. When it posted the next day the first two nights automatically benefitted from the promotion, the second two did not – all exactly as it should be.

Re IHG I find their IT excellent.

I had a night post on Wednesday morning that included a number of separate offers and all posted correctly – a bonus night, the usual points and status bonus points plus the “stay with certain brands” promo.

And they can allocate other offers across stays as well.

But in the scheme of things Hotel promos are a lot simpler to post than airlines.

With the latter there are a number of sources for points – many of which work to their own timetables. With hotels they may have lots of individual hotels but they all use the same system and they don’t have non member hotels posting.

And not helped that BA Hols is a separate company to BA with a whole host of separate offers.

If BA kept is simple it would be a lot easier and some of the issues are of their own making but many not.

And of course simple offers don’t usually generate additional bookings.
