Got a hotel stay booked via company travel agent. Marriott reservations team advised me that i will not get the points/benefit due to it doesnt pay by me when i called up to check if my elite number has been added into the booking. Never hot this issue on IHG not Hilton and wondering if this was new for Marriott?
Some corporate travel agents are tried into brokers which are the same as consolidators or some OTA’s that buy blocks of rooms or make commitments to hotels or hotel groups, and sell them singly. if you are lucky this wont be with every hotel group, or only some locations etc.
Those types of rooms never, ever achieve benefits in the hotel plan for individuals.
I advise you to change your employer.
Some of the company booking portals show you how a particular hotel is being booked (eg via Expedia — bad for points collectors). Take a close look at your company one and see if you can work out the codes that are used. It may be possible to avoid the non-qualifying booking routes.
If you’re unlucky, literally all of them will be non-qualifying.
I advise you to change your employer.
Thanks LL, this comment made my day!
Interested to hear this. Let me report back after the stay.
The general rule is that unless you book directly with the hotel then you won’t earn points or status nights.
SOME hotels and chains may give you status benefits (upgrade / free drink) on such bookings but that’s very much down to them.
However any employes won’t allow staff to book their own rooms and claim reimbursement because it costs them extra to process the payment back to you or they may lose discounts or reimbursements from the TA which affects the bottom line.
I have to book through my company portal and still get points. My company offers two options, pay at the hotel or pay by the company. I normally get points with the formed, assuming I book the refundable rate. I never get points if the bill is settled by the company. To be honest, I want to pay anyway, to double up on credit card points.
