Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club No tier points with Qatar LHR to Sydney?

  • 5 posts

The tier points calculator at the link below is displaying no TPs with Qatar Airways for this route – do they not get awarded on LHR to Sydney unless you fly BA? Or is this an error with the calculator? TPs do show for other routes eg. To Auckland

Need to check LHR-Doha and then Doha-Sydney as it is two different flights you’re taking

Ah thanks – the calculator displayed BA LHR to SYD as 240 Business Tier points with BA and nothing for Qatar so it caught me out.

It does indeed show 140 + 160 points for with Qatar for going via Doha, and the same number with BA via Singapore.

Yes it’s silly it doesn’t give an error rather than show 0

BA15 / 16 is a direct flight London-Sydney hence that one showing up. As you see, connecting somewhere gives more TPs !

Interesting… BA15 appears to make a stop in Singapore, at least when looking on Google Flights – how can we tell the difference between this and connecting flights which count for more tier points? Is it just where the flight number doesn’t change?

Annoyingly BA15 was the flight I was looking at getting! Oh well.

That’s right, the flight number doesn’t change as it’s considered one flight with a stop in Singapore

One option is to change between the two BA flights in Singapore, then you get the extra TPs. You can do this outbound by putting the legs in seperately using the multi city option.

I vaguely recall you’d need to call to book it on the return it’s less than 2hrs connection which the website is hard coded not to allow. More risky going that way as if anything went wrong out of Sydney you’d miss the BA12 onwards (BA would rebook though)
