Forums Payment cards American Express O/seas spending on BAPP/Any alternative Avios cards good for o/seas spending?

Booked for Australia next January and staying for two months.i usually load up my Revolut for holiday spending but now I’m on the Companion Voucher trail and I hate the thought of losing two months worth of Avios! Does anyone know how friendly the exchange rate on overseas spending on the BAPP card is, and if there is a fee per transaction?

As an alternative, could anyone suggest a better card for overseas spending with Avios accrual, or perhaps Nectar points accrual?

Amex Ts and Cs are on the website. Exchange rate shouldn’t be a problem but there is an FX fee, I think 2.99%. This obviously starts to add up if you’re spending a lot.

I usually forget about Amex abroad and outside of Europe tend to use Curve linked to the Virgin MC or avios Barclaycard. The latter will obviously earn you avios, plus spend will count towards the upgrade voucher.

As NorthernLass says, getting an Avios-earning Barclaycard linking it to a Curve card might be an option, you’ll need to look at Curve’s options in detail and choose based on your likely spending pattern.

You can earn a cabin upgrade voucher with Barclaycard, plus the Avios bonus etc., if you can drive enough spend through both Amex and Barclaycard it’s worth a look…
