Booked Malaysia Airlines seats whilst I was BA Gold (OW Emerald), so seats were free of charge. Downgraded to BA Silver last month and Malaysia Airlines have totally removed the seat reservations with no warning. My understanding was that the OW benefit applicable at time of ‘benefit use’ would apply. i.e. free seat selection at booking based on OW status at time of transaction. OW Lounge access at time of flight etc. Any thoughts or experience appreciated.
No benefits apply based on status of when you fly not when you booked.
Just because BA might not change your seats when your status drops doesn’t mean other partners won’t.
Does OW Sapphire not get free seat selection as well?
You do on BA flights although it may not apply to Malaysian Airlines flights.

OW websites states it provides seat, Malaysia Airlines website is contradictory depending what page you look at and then contradicts the OW website…. Malaysia Airlines act like they are in the Wild West and seem to enact whatever they feel like regardless of stated benefits in OW.

Just as a side note, had a MH flight on a QR codeshare a few weeks ago and Avios/TP did not credit to BA, apparently this is a common occurrence with MH. They don’t seem the best in applying OneWorld rules/systems etc sadly
I get free seat selection on QR and AA as Silver/Sapphire, can’t see why you wouldn’t on MH? Have you tried selecting again?
It sounds like you need to speak to the bloke giving away MH tickets at the HFP party raffle…

Sadly MH seem to be a law to themselves. Their own Enrich programme is badly documented and as mentioned there is a lot of confusion and contradiction on their own site as well as what is stated on OW site. Sadly, OW don’t seem interested in auditting partners to ensure they comply with the published benefits.

I fly MH quote a bit short haul in Asia and the majority of the their fares earn no Avios. It is not worth paying extra to buy a fare class that gives you a couple of Avios.
